What Visalia weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's Visalia climate table, which cites NOAA and the National Weather Service without naming a station, shows average highs near 89 degrees in June, 94 in July, 93 in August and 88 in September, and about 10 inches of rain a year. The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the whole San Joaquin Valley from July 2 to 9, 2024. Heat dries out lubricant and ages rollers and seals.
Tule fog is a valley-wide winter ground fog from mid-October to early March. National Weather Service Hanford issued dense fog advisories for Visalia and Hanford in December 2023, January 2024 and November 2025, and in one event visibility fell to an eighth of a mile in Visalia. Rain on November 16 and 17, 2025 totaled 1.38 inches there. Damp air collects on tracks, springs and the sensor lenses near the floor.
Before fog season, wipe the tracks and sensor lenses, oil the rollers and hinges, and press the test button on the battery backup.
- Wipe sensor lenses on foggy mornings
- Oil rollers and hinges before summer
- Test the battery backup twice a year

I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review
My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Visalia
Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
City permits. Visalia is its own city. According to summaries of the city's pages, the Permit Counter and Building Safety Division is at City Hall East, 315 E Acequia Avenue, phone 559-713-4444. The city's own pages would not load for us, so confirm the number and the rules at visalia.gov. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement or opener swap needs a permit. Outside the city limits, permits go through Tulare County.
Older neighborhoods. Wikipedia says Visalia Heights is thought to be the city's first Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, which we could not confirm. If your home is in an older district, ask the city about design rules before changing the look of a door.

Visalia garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Visalia?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Visalia (ZIPs 93277, 93291 and 93292) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Visalia?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Visalia?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Visalia?
Visalia uses ZIP codes 93277, 93291 and 93292, according to zip-codes.com, and these also cover land outside the city limits. We also serve nearby Goshen, Farmersville, Exeter, Tulare and Ivanhoe, so call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does a garage door replacement in Visalia need a permit?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule for Visalia. Call the Permit Counter at 559-713-4444 (confirm the number with the city) to ask whether your door or opener work needs one.
I live near Oval Park. Do older bungalow garages need special doors?
Older garages can have narrower or non-standard openings, so we measure the opening and check the tracks before we quote. If your home is in an older district, ask the city about design rules before changing the look of a door.
What is the most common problem with garage doors?
Broken torsion springs are the most common problem, followed by snapped cables, worn rollers, misaligned sensors and doors that jump their track. On a door that is thirty years old, expect more than one worn part.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Visalia?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
