Garage Door Repair
A door that sticks, shakes, scrapes or will not move is usually one worn part. We find it, fix it and test the door before we leave.
- Springs, cables, rollers and tracks
- Sensors, openers and remotes
- Off-track and bent-panel fixes
- Estimates by phone or form
Garage door repair means finding the one worn or broken part that is stopping your door and replacing or adjusting it: the spring, the cable, a roller, the track, a hinge, a sensor or the opener. Call (213) 340-4232 and tell us what the door does. Most problems have a clear cause.

Signs your garage door needs repair
Garage doors fail in a handful of repeatable ways. Learning which one you have makes the phone call faster and keeps you from paying for a part you do not need.
A door that rises crooked or sits tilted usually has a cable or spring problem on one side. A door that scrapes or squeals usually needs new rollers or a track adjustment. A door that goes up a few inches and drops is nearly always out of balance, which points to the springs.
- The door will not open, or opens only a few inches
- It slams down or will not stay up when you lift it by hand
- Loud bang from the garage, then the door will not move: usually a broken spring (spring repair)
- The door is crooked, hangs off the track or one cable is slack (cable repair)
- The motor runs but the door does not move (opener repair)
- The door reverses by itself or the sensor lights blink
Symptom, likely cause, what we do
A starting point, not a diagnosis. We confirm the cause on site before we replace anything.
| What you notice | Likely cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Loud bang, door will not lift | Broken torsion or extension spring | Replace the spring set and rebalance the door |
| Door hangs crooked | Snapped or slipped lift cable, bent track | Replace the cable, true the track, test |
| Squeaking or grinding | Dry or worn rollers, loose hinges | Replace rollers and hinges, lubricate, tighten |
| Opener hums, door stays put | Door out of balance, stripped drive gear | Check balance, replace gear or opener |
| Door reverses before it closes | Misaligned or dirty safety sensors | Clean and realign the sensors, test the reverse |
| Dented or bent panel | Impact, or an off-track door | Straighten or replace the panel section |
Parts and labor are confirmed after we see the door and before we start.
From the call to a working door
You call or send the form
Tell us what the door does and where it is. We give you the soonest visit we have.
We inspect the whole door
Springs, cables, rollers, tracks, hinges, sensors and the opener. A single failed part often hides a second worn one.
You get the price before we start
We explain what failed, what we recommend and what it costs. You decide.
We repair and test
We balance the door, run it through full cycles and check the safety reverse before we pack up.

Keep a repaired door working
Most doors we repair are between ordinary use and ordinary wear: thousands of open-close cycles on the same springs, rollers and cables. A little attention extends all of them.
Once a season, open the door with the opener, then pull the release and lift it by hand. A balanced door lifts easily and stays at waist height. A heavy or fast-falling door needs service before something breaks. Never touch the springs or the bottom brackets yourself; both hold the full weight of the door under tension.
- Test the safety reverse with a block of wood under the door
- Wipe and realign the photo-eye sensors
- Listen for new grinding or popping

What customers say

Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review

Garage Door Repair: questions we hear
How fast can you fix a garage door?
Call us and describe the problem. We schedule the soonest visit available and tell you what to expect. Many repairs, such as a spring, cable or roller replacement, are finished in a single visit when we have the part on the truck.
Can I just replace a broken garage door spring myself?
We do not recommend it. A torsion spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury, and a badly wound spring leaves the door unbalanced. Spring work needs the right winding bars and a proper balance test.
Why does my garage door go up and then come back down?
That is usually the safety reverse. A sensor is blocked or out of line, or the door is out of balance and the opener thinks something is in the way. Clean the sensor lenses, check that the lights are steady, and call us if it keeps happening.
Is it better to repair or replace my garage door?
Repair is the right call when the door itself is sound and a part has worn out. Replace the door when panels are cracked or rusted through, the door is no longer safe to repair, or you want better insulation and style. We tell you honestly which one makes sense.
Do you repair all garage door brands?
We repair most residential doors and openers. Tell us the brand and size when you call. For older or unusual doors we confirm the part is available before we quote.
What should I do before the technician arrives?
Move vehicles out of the garage if you can, keep children and pets away from the door, and do not try to force it. If the door is stuck open or closed, leave it as it is.
