What Chino weather does to a garage door
Chino Airport is Chino's own NOAA station. Its 1991-2020 normals show July highs near 94 degrees, August near 96 and September near 93, with a record high of 121 degrees in September. Rain averages about 10 inches a year, February is the wettest month, and the summer months get under a tenth of an inch. Long, dry heat bakes the oil out of rollers and hinges and ages plastic parts.
Santa Ana winds hit the area frequently in autumn and winter, according to Wikipedia's Ontario page. According to weather-service alerts listed on weather aggregator sites, a wind advisory for Chino issued on April 17, 2026 called for north winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph; those are forecasts, not measured gusts. Wind-blown dust settles in the tracks, and a power cut leaves an opener dead, so check the manual release and the battery backup.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges, and press the test button on the battery backup. Lay a board flat under the door to test the safety reverse.
- Wipe tracks and sensors after windy days
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Oil rollers and hinges before summer

Late-1980s houses in a large dairy-country city
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 five-year estimates, the median Chino home was built in 1987. About 64 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, about 68 percent of housing units are detached single-family houses, about 11 percent are in buildings of five or more units and about 1.5 percent are mobile homes.
Chino covers about 30 square miles and was long a center of agriculture and dairy; according to Wikipedia the dairy industry flourished from the 1950s through the 1980s. The city was incorporated in 1910, the Yorba-Slaughter Adobe from 1850 is one of the oldest standing buildings in San Bernardino County, and Chino Airport is home to the Planes of Fame and Yanks Air museums.
A home built around 1987 is now close to 40 years old. Springs are rated for a set number of open-and-close cycles, so a door that opens several times a day may be on its second set of parts. We weigh and balance each door before choosing a spring.
- Springs on doors from the 1980s and 1990s
- Openers and sensors that have run for decades
- Battery backup upgrades on older openers

I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review
My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Chino
Battery backup. California requires a battery backup on residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state (Health and Safety Code section 19892). A new door cannot be connected to an older opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
Design rules. Planned communities and historic overlays can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.
Chino Building Division. Chino is its own city, so its Building Division, part of the Development Services Department at 13220 Central Avenue, sets its rules. The division's phone is 909-334-3251 (city main line 909-334-3250). Its page lists building permit applications, a fee schedule, and online permits and inspection requests, but it does not mention garage doors or openers and lists no office hours.
We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement or an opener swap needs a permit in Chino, so call the Building Division before the work starts.

Chino garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Chino?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Chino (ZIP 91710 and 91708) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Chino?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Chino?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Chino?
Chino uses ZIP codes 91710 and 91708. According to a directory, 91710 covers about 85 percent of the city's population. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Is Chino the same as Chino Hills?
No. Chino and Chino Hills are separate cities with their own building departments. We serve both; see our Chino Hills page for the neighbor to the west.
Does a garage door replacement need a permit in Chino?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule. Ask the Chino Building Division at 909-334-3251 whether your door or opener job needs a permit before it starts.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a simple job like a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Chino?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
