Clovis weather, heat and fog

Wikipedia's Clovis chart, which names no weather station, puts average highs from 53 degrees in December to 97 in July. Average lows run from 29 in December to 66 in July. Rain falls mostly from January to March, and June to August is nearly dry. The chart gives no annual total. For the Fresno area, Wikipedia's Fresno article, which uses Fresno airport normals for 1991-2020, counts about 38 days a year at or above 100 degrees and about 113 at or above 90, and those are Fresno figures, not Clovis ones.

PG&E opened a local emergency operations center in southeast Fresno before several days of excessive heat in early July 2024 and warned that heavy energy use in heat can overheat equipment and cause outages, according to abc30. Heat-linked outages also hit Fresno and Madera County in September 2022. We found no Clovis-only outage figure. Tule fog is a ground fog of the San Joaquin Valley, with a window from November 1 to March 31 per Wikipedia and visibility often under 600 feet.

We found no link between heat or fog and garage door failures, so we claim none. As a simple habit, learn where your opener's manual release is for a power outage, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges twice a year and test the battery backup.

Clovis homes

Valley tract homes and a railroad-era Old Town

Clovis is a city in Fresno County, incorporated February 27, 1912, according to Wikipedia. According to the Census Bureau's ACS 2024 one-year estimate, which carries a margin of error, the median home was built in 1995 and the median owner-occupied home value is about $503,700. About 74 percent of homes are detached single-family houses, and roughly 65 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The ACS counts about 5,900 units in buildings of 2 to 9 units and about 4,800 in buildings of 10 or more.

Wikipedia says Clovis began as a freight stop on the San Joaquin Valley Railroad, and that a lumber flume completed in 1894 spurred growth. The Old Town Clovis historic district runs along Clovis Avenue, with a restored railroad depot at Clovis Avenue and Fourth Street. The Clovis Rodeo has been held since 1914. We found no homeowners association in any source. City pages mention planned developments and specific plan areas that need site plan review, which is a design review item, not an association.

Clovis borders Fresno, so a call from the west side can be a short drive from a Fresno address. Tell us your cross street and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing springs.

Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review

Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review

"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review

Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review

It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review

Rules to know

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Clovis

Battery backup. California requires a battery backup on residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state (Health and Safety Code section 19892). A new door cannot be connected to an older opener that lacks one. See opener installation.

Design rules. Planned communities and historic overlays can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.

City permits. Clovis is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Clovis, not Fresno. Search summaries of the city's pages list the Building Division at 1033 Fifth Street, with phone (559) 324-2390 and email building@cityofclovis.com. The city site did not open for us, so confirm the number and hours. The Development Code requires a building permit before work that alters or reconstructs a structure, but we found no exemptions and no mention of doors. We could not confirm whether a garage door or opener replacement needs a permit, so ask the Building Division at cityofclovis.com.

Old Town and planned areas. The city has an Old Town historic district, and its planning pages mention planned developments and specific plan areas that need Residential Site Plan Review. We could not verify whether a garage door counts as a reviewed exterior change in either. If your home is in Old Town or a planned area, ask the city's Planning staff first.

FAQ

Clovis garage door repair: questions we hear

Is there garage door repair near me in Clovis?

Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Clovis (ZIP 93611, 93612 and 93619) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.

What is the average price to repair a garage door in Clovis?

Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.

What is the most common garage door repair in Clovis?

Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.

How much is a service call for a garage door?

Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?

A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.

Which ZIP codes do you serve in Clovis?

Clovis homes use ZIP codes 93611, 93612 and 93619, and ZIP code 93613 is for PO boxes only. These ZIP codes extend beyond the city into Fresno and county areas, so tell us your street and we confirm we cover it.

Does a garage door replacement in Clovis need a permit?

We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule for the City of Clovis. The Development Code requires a permit for work that alters or reconstructs a structure but does not mention doors. Call the Building Division to ask about your job, and confirm the number with the city first.

Do you serve Fresno as well as Clovis?

Yes. Clovis borders Fresno, and we serve homes on both sides of the line. Tell us your street and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit.

Can a handyman fix a garage door?

A handyman can often handle a simple job such as a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.

Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?

Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.

Do you also repair gates in Clovis?

Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
