Fountain Valley areas we serve
Areas are described by their landmarks, from Wikipedia and local sources. Call if yours is not listed.
| Part of Fountain Valley | What is there | What to know for a garage door |
|---|---|---|
| North, near Mile Square Regional Park | A 640-acre park with two lakes and two 18-hole golf courses | A real-estate blog dates homes in the north mainly to the 1960s and 1970s, so we check for original springs and openers |
| Central, near City Hall and the library | City Hall at 10200 Slater Avenue and the Branch Library on Los Alamos Street | Mostly detached tract homes; about 68 percent of homes citywide, according to Census Bureau estimates |
| West, along Bushard Street | Fountain Valley High School, on a street that follows the old Red Car line route | Houses of mixed ages; tell us the door's age and make if you know them |
| East, toward the Santa Ana River | Fountain Valley Regional Hospital on Euclid Street, Los Amigos High School and the river bike path on the eastern border | Houses plus some larger apartment buildings; about 7 percent of homes citywide are in buildings of 50 or more units |
Fountain Valley has one street-delivery ZIP code, 92708. ZIP 92728 is for post office boxes.

Mostly single-family tract homes from the 1960s and 1970s
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 five-year estimates, Fountain Valley has about 19,200 homes and a median year built of 1972. About 68 percent are detached houses and 10 percent are attached homes, and about 65 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Only about 1,400 homes sit in buildings of 50 or more units, so most of the city is houses.
A real-estate blog places many homes in the north and southeast in the 1960s and 1970s and names a tract called Green Valley. We found no source for builders or lot sizes, so tell us your door's age and make if you know them and we take it from there.
The city was known as Talbert before it incorporated in 1957, and its name refers to the high water table and artesian wells of the time. Mile Square Regional Park covers 640 acres, the San Diego Freeway crosses the city on a diagonal, and the Santa Ana River forms the eastern border. Doors from the 1970s have had decades of cycles, so we check the whole door.
- Original springs and openers on 1970s homes
- Rollers and hinges worn by daily use
- Opener upgrades with battery backup

What Fountain Valley weather does to a garage door
Fountain Valley's Wikipedia page has no climate table, so these are nearby normals. The John Wayne Airport station in neighboring Costa Mesa shows January highs near 67 degrees, August highs near 80 and about 11 inches of rain a year, mostly in winter. Santa Ana's normals run warmer, with August highs near 85 and about 30 days a year at 90 or more. Expect mild winters, warm summers and some 90-degree days, with winter rain collecting in tracks and bottom seals.
Wikipedia's Santa Ana winds page says the autumn winds usually last one to seven days and do the most damage along the Santa Ana River basin in Orange County, and the river is Fountain Valley's eastern border. We found no gust figure for the city. Wind and heavy rain around January 31 and February 1, 2016 left about 1,500 Fountain Valley customers without power, according to Patch, so keep the manual release and the battery backup ready.
After a windy or rainy spell, wipe the tracks, check that the two sensors near the floor still face each other, and oil the rollers and hinges. Press the battery-backup test button twice a year.
- Wipe tracks and sensors after wind and rain
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Oil rollers and hinges before summer

My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review

Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
Fountain Valley Building Department. The department is at City Hall, 10200 Slater Avenue, phone (714) 593-4429, and the main city line is (714) 593-4400 (fountainvalley.gov). The city's Work Exempt from Permits handout, from the 2016 code cycle, does not name garage doors or openers, and the permits page lists a window replacement worksheet but no garage door handout. The page also says the 2022 codes are adopted and the handouts are under review. We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule, so call before you replace a door or add an opener.

Fountain Valley garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Fountain Valley?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Fountain Valley (ZIP 92708) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Fountain Valley?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Fountain Valley?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Fountain Valley?
Fountain Valley's street-delivery ZIP code is 92708, and ZIP 92728 is for post office boxes. Some addresses near the Santa Ana border may carry a Santa Ana mailing address, so call us if you are not sure we reach yours.
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Fountain Valley?
We could not confirm it. The city's exempt-work handout does not name garage doors or openers, and the permits page has no garage door handout. Call the Building Department at (714) 593-4429 before you replace a door or add an opener.
Can I open my garage door when the power goes out in Fountain Valley?
Yes, with the manual release or a working battery backup. Wind and heavy rain around January 31 and February 1, 2016 left about 1,500 Fountain Valley customers without power, according to Patch, so it pays to know where the release is.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a simple job like a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Fountain Valley?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
