Corpus Christi areas we serve
Areas are described by their landmarks, from local sources. Call if yours is not listed.
| Part of Corpus Christi | What is there | What we often see on garage doors |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown, the Bayfront and North Beach | City Hall on Leopard Street, Whataburger Field, the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay | Older doors, salt-air rust on hardware |
| Calallen and the Leopard Street corridor | Calallen High School and the west-side streets along Leopard Street toward Annaville | Mixed ages and wide doors on larger lots |
| The Southside | Staples Street, Everhart Road, Saratoga Boulevard and the King's Crossing master-planned community | Original springs and openers on 1980s and 1990s homes |
| Flour Bluff and North Padre Island | Flour Bluff High School, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and the island streets off Leeward and Windward Drives | Wind-rated doors, raised homes and salt-air corrosion |
Corpus Christi's street ZIP codes are 78401, 78402 and 78404 through 78419. ZIP 78403 and several other codes are PO boxes only.

Early-1980s housing on a bay, a barrier island and the Southside
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, Corpus Christi has about 136,300 housing units. About 64 percent are single-family detached houses and about 58 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median year built is 1982, so many original garage doors, springs and openers are now 30 to 40 years old or more.
Newer master-planned areas sit beside older streets. A developer announcement describes Whitecap NPI on North Padre Island as a master-planned community of about 240 acres with more than 600 planned lots and canals, and a listing site calls it a gated waterfront enclave. King's Crossing on the Southside is a golf-course master-planned community, and a local real estate guide quotes association fees there of $50 to $150 a month and says older Ocean Drive neighborhoods often have no association. We could not verify the rules of any association, so check yours before you change a door.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.

What Corpus Christi weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's NOAA 1991-2020 table for Corpus Christi gives a mean daily high of 93.7 degrees in July and 95.0 in August, an annual rainfall of 31.74 inches and average relative humidity near 76 percent. Wikipedia also says the city has one of the highest average wind speeds of the coastal cities in North America. Constant wind and salt air rust tracks, springs, cables and hinges, and the heat wears opener motors and weatherstripping.
Hurricane Harvey came ashore on San Jose Island on August 26, 2017 as a Category 4 storm with 130 mph sustained winds, and an extreme wind warning covered Nueces County before landfall. Hurricane Hanna made landfall on Padre Island on July 25, 2020 and brought storm surge flooding and tropical-storm-force winds to the city. After storms, outages are common, so know where your manual release is and what your battery backup does.
Every few months, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and look at the springs and cable ends for rust. Rinse salt off hardware near the water and test the safety reverse.
- Check springs and cables for rust
- Know where the manual release is
- Look at tracks and panels after a storm
What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review

Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Corpus Christi is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Corpus Christi. City Hall is at 1201 Leopard Street, phone 361-826-2489 or 3-1-1, and Development Services takes permit applications through the city's online Dynamic Portal at corpuschristitx.gov. The city's page on residential remodels and repairs lists permit-required work such as additions, garages, roofing and siding, but it does not mention garage doors or openers. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement needs a permit, so ask Development Services before the work.
Coastal wind rules. The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association lists Nueces County among its 14 first-tier coastal counties, and the city asks for a Texas Department of Insurance form from a windstorm engineer or inspector on some accessory construction and roofing and siding permits. The Texas Department of Insurance says garage doors in Texas must be tested to ASTM E 330 and glass panels rated to ASTM E 1996. Its garage door storm-repair sheet tells homeowners on the Gulf coast to ask their insurer whether repairs must meet the building code, says compliant, inspected repairs earn a Certificate of Compliance (form WPI-8), and says the door must be installed to the manufacturer's tested high-wind instructions. We could not verify whether a plain door replacement in Corpus Christi needs a WPI-8, so ask the city and your insurer first. Beachfront projects may need extra certificates.
Texas rules. We could not confirm a Texas statewide license requirement for garage door repair. A Texas Department of Public Safety page says installing only garage door openers or gate operators, with their wall buttons, remotes and keypads, needs no DPS license, but a license is needed when the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes.

Corpus Christi garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Corpus Christi?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Corpus Christi (ZIP 78401) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Corpus Christi?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Corpus Christi?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Corpus Christi?
Corpus Christi's street ZIP codes are 78401, 78402 and 78404 through 78419. ZIP 78403 and several other codes are for PO boxes only. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you repair garage doors on North Padre Island and in Flour Bluff?
Yes. Doors near the water see salt air, strong wind and humidity, which rust springs, cables and track hardware. We inspect the whole door, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Does a new garage door in Corpus Christi need to be wind rated?
Nueces County is a first-tier coastal county, and the Texas Department of Insurance says garage doors in Texas must be tested to ASTM E 330. We could not verify whether a plain replacement needs the WPI-8 certificate, so ask the city and your insurer. We can tell you what rating a door carries.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
