A big plains city of ranch-style homes from the early 1970s
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 one-year American Community Survey, Wichita Falls has about 43,800 housing units. About 71 percent are single-family detached houses, about 57 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied and about 3 percent are mobile homes. The median year built is 1972, so the original doors and openers on many homes are 50 years old, and springs and cables on those doors have often been replaced already.
Wikipedia names the Depot Square Historic District and lists Sheppard Air Force Base and Midwestern State University among the city's anchors. We could not verify whether changing a door in the historic district needs review, so ask the city first. We also could not verify building materials or homeowner associations in other parts of town.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.
- Original springs and openers on homes from the early 1970s
- Older doors that have been repaired before
- Wide doors on newer south-side homes

What Wichita Falls weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia gives Wichita Falls a July mean daily high of 97.2 degrees, a January mean daily low of 30.0, about 28 inches of precipitation and about 28 days a year at or above 100 degrees. Long hot spells bake rubber seals and wear out springs and opener circuits, and January lows near freezing stiffen lubricant on rollers and hinges.
Wichita Falls has a well-known tornado history. An F5 tornado on April 3, 1964 destroyed about 225 homes, and the F4 tornado on April 10, 1979, known as Terrible Tuesday, killed more than 40 people and left about 20,000 homeless, according to Wikipedia. Hail is a regular spring hazard, and Wikipedia records straight-line wind gusts up to 94 mph in the city on June 20, 2007. Hail dents panels, wind bends tracks and pushes light doors out of their frames, and the February 2021 winter storm cut power for millions of Texans.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse. After hail or high wind, look at the panels and track before you run the opener.
- Check panels and tracks after hail or wind
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year

Great company to use for garage door work. Came out promptly, over a weekend when I could not get others to respond. Efficient work, very knowledgeable, very friendly. I would not hesitate to contact them first the next time I need service.Courtney · Google review
Incredible honest work. Emil took care of all the repairs needed in order for my garage door to work again. I know I need a new garage door but I can't afford it right now this company was nice enough to fix it instead of hounding me for more money to get a new door. Emil was so nice that he even provided me a price. I was so happy he said I could call him when I had the money and he would honor me the price. amazing company to reach out to.Jasmine · Google review

I have been using them for few years. They are professional, reliable (especially in emergencies (springs breaking)), customer service is always polite and helpful, and their prices cannot be beat!!Deborah · Google review
Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Opener safety. The federal standard for residential garage door operators (Consumer Product Safety Commission, 16 CFR part 1211) calls for automatic reversing and entrapment protection such as photo-eye sensors. If yours stopped working, we test the reverse and the sensors and repair or replace what failed. See opener installation.
Design rules. Planned communities and historic districts can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.
City permits. Wichita Falls is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Wichita Falls. Building and Code Administration is at 1300 7th Street, with the city's line at (940) 761-7459, and permits use the city's Electronic Plan Review system at wichitafallstx.gov. The city publishes a permit guide for residential sheds, garages and storage structures, but we could not read it and found no city page that mentions garage door or opener replacement. We could not confirm whether such work needs a permit, so call the city before the work.
Texas rules. We found no Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. A Texas Department of Public Safety page dated 2020 says installing garage door or gate openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes.

Wichita Falls garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Wichita Falls?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Wichita Falls (ZIP 76301) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Wichita Falls?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Wichita Falls?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Wichita Falls?
Wichita Falls' street ZIP codes are 76301, 76302, 76305, 76306, 76308, 76309 and 76310. 76307 is for PO boxes only. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does hail damage garage doors in Wichita Falls?
It can. Spring hail dents steel panels, and straight-line wind gusts of up to 94 mph were recorded in the city in June 2007, according to Wikipedia. After a storm we inspect the panels, track, springs and opener and quote the price before we start.
Do you repair garage doors in the Depot Square Historic District?
Wikipedia names a Depot Square Historic District in Wichita Falls. We could not verify whether it reviews garage door changes, so ask the city before you replace a door there. We can still repair springs, cables and openers.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
