Houses from the 1990s and 2000s at 5,000 feet
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, Prescott Valley has about 22,300 housing units. About 69 percent are single-family detached houses, about 13 percent are mobile homes and about 72 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median year built is 2002, and about half of all homes went up between 1990 and 2009, so many original garage doors and openers are now 20 to 35 years old.
Builder and real-estate pages describe several master-planned communities in town, among them The Viewpoint (637 acres on hillside lots), StoneRidge (a golf community) and Pronghorn Ranch. We could not verify the association rules for any of them, so check your association's design rules before you choose a new door style or color.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.

What customers say

Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review

What Prescott Valley weather does to a garage door
At about 5,100 feet, Prescott Valley has real winters. Wikipedia's climate table, which uses modeled 1991-2020 normals, gives a January mean daily high of 52.7 degrees and a mean daily low of 25.7, with about 15 inches of precipitation a year. In general, nights in the 20s stiffen weatherstripping and lubricant, slow an opener and strain torsion springs and cables.
The National Weather Service in Flagstaff listed Prescott and Prescott Valley among lower-elevation areas with significant snow in the January 25-26, 2021 storm, with road closures and power outages across the region. Summer brings monsoon storms: Fox 10 reported a July 20, 2026 storm in Prescott Valley with heavy rain, damaging wind and pea-size hail that brought down traffic signals and trees, and APS reported more than 130 customers without power. Know where your manual release is.
Before winter, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges and look along the bottom seal for cracks. Test the safety reverse twice a year.

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Prescott Valley
Safety reverse and sensors. A home garage door opener sold in the United States has to reverse the door on contact and have photo-eye sensors or an equivalent entrapment protection device, under the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission standard (16 CFR part 1211). A door that closes on an object, or an opener with dead sensors, needs repair before further use. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic district rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
Town permits. Prescott Valley is an incorporated town with its own Town Code, so its rules come from the Town of Prescott Valley and not from the City of Prescott. The Development Services Permit Center is at 7501 E Skoog Blvd, phone 928-759-5535, and its page is at prescottvalley-az.gov. When we read that page in November 2026 it referred to the 2018 codes and listed the 2024 ICC codes as not yet adopted. It lists permit applications for windows and doors but does not mention garage doors or openers, so we could not confirm whether a garage door replacement, spring repair or opener swap needs a permit. Call the Permit Center before the work.
State rules. Arizona contractor law (A.R.S. 32-1121(A)(14)) lets someone without a contractor license do only "casual or minor" work whose total price, labor and materials together, is under $1,000, and only if the work needs no local building permit. We found no garage door or opener classification in the Registrar of Contractors' residential list (A.A.C. R4-9-103) or commercial list (R4-9-102). Check any contractor's license number at roc.az.gov.

Prescott Valley garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Prescott Valley?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Prescott Valley (ZIP 86314) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (602) 730-9866, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Prescott Valley?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Prescott Valley?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Prescott Valley?
Prescott Valley's street ZIP codes are 86314 and 86315. ZIP 86312 is for PO boxes only. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you repair garage doors after snow or a hard freeze in Prescott Valley?
Yes. Cold mornings can stiffen seals and lubricant and slow the opener, and a door that was fine in October can start to bind. We inspect the springs, cables, rollers and opener, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Do you also serve Prescott, Dewey-Humboldt and Chino Valley?
Yes. We serve Prescott Valley and the nearby towns of Prescott, Dewey-Humboldt and Chino Valley. Call with your address and we confirm the visit.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
