At Emil Garage Doors, repairing an off-track garage door is typically $175 to $450, depending on whether the tracks, panels or rollers are bent or damaged. The final price is confirmed after we see the door. Stop using a door that is off its track: it can hang from its cables and fall.
What off-track repair costs
The repair is a range because the price depends on what the fall did to the door. It is confirmed after we see the door and before we start.

What makes the price higher or lower
- Rollers only out of the track: the low end, when the track is straight and the rollers just need to go back in.
- A bent track: it may need straightening or replacing, and Garaga says loose bracket bolts can knock tracks out of parallel.
- A damaged lower section: Garaga says lower sections are often damaged and may need replacing.
- A broken cable or spring: either can leave a door unbalanced, and each adds its own repair.
- Worn rollers: failed rollers overload the rest and can bend a track.
See panel replacement cost if a section is bent, and cable replacement cost if a cable is hurt.
Why a door comes off its track
Garaga lists the usual causes. A vehicle bump, even at 3 to 5 miles per hour, can pop rollers out and damage the lower sections. A bent or misaligned horizontal track, a worn or broken roller or a broken lift cable can do it too.
That is why the first step is a check of the whole system, not only the track. Read is an off-track door safe to use and what to do when a car hits the door.
What to do while you wait
Hormann says to stop using a door that is crooked or off its tracks, and Amarr says a door that has fallen off its track will no longer function. If it has dropped, Garaga says to leave it alone, keep people clear and call a specialist. Do not try to force it back.
If a car caused it, Garaga also suggests calling your car and home insurance agents. The door should be inspected before it is used again.
What a quote should list
- Which parts are being repaired or replaced: tracks, rollers, panels, cables
- Whether the springs and cables were checked
- Whether the door is rebalanced and the safety reverse tested afterward
- The total, before any work starts
A track is designed for a specific door, according to DASMA, so a replacement track should match the door's model and size.

Questions people ask
How much does it cost to fix a garage door that is off track?
Off-track repair is typically $175 to $450 with us. The price depends on whether tracks, panels, rollers or cables are damaged, and we confirm it after we see the door.
Can I put an off-track door back myself?
We do not recommend it. A door off its track can hang from its cables and fall, and the damage that caused it is often hidden.
Does the price change if a car hit the door?
It can. A vehicle impact often bends the track and damages the lower sections, so the repair may include more than getting the rollers back in.
Is an off-track door safe to use?
No. Stop using it and call a technician.
