Single-family tracts, townhomes and HOA entries
Carson is a Los Angeles County city of about 91,000 people. According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, the median home was built in 1966, about 72 percent of housing units are single-family detached houses, about 74 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, about 8 percent of housing units are mobile homes and the median owner-occupied value is about $704,000. Most units were built in the 1960s.
An HOA law-firm page describes Dominguez Hills Village as a private gated single-family community, and listing pages describe several gated townhome communities such as San Tropez, Carson Landing, Colony Park and Harbor Village. These are third-party descriptions with no official count, so check your own association's rules before you change an entry or an access system.
On tract homes and shared townhome entries we start with the leaf, hinges or track, then test the operator, keypad, sensors and battery backup.

- Townhome and HOA entries with keypads and remotes
- Hinges, rollers and tracks on older gates

What the South Bay does to a gate
Wikipedia's climate chart for Carson lists average highs of 74 degrees in June, 77 in July and 78 in August and September, with monthly rainfall that adds up to roughly 14.6 inches a year. Carson sits about 6 to 8 miles from the Pacific, and the article describes frequent June Gloom. Damp mornings put moisture on keypads and control boxes.
Santa Ana winds are most common in fall and winter, according to a third-party hazard summary. A preliminary magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook the Carson area on September 17, 2021. Shaking can loosen mounting bolts and knock a track or sensor out of line, so a quick check after a quake is wise. We found no Carson-specific outage record.
Check sensors and mounting bolts after a quake or a windy spell, and test the backup battery each autumn.

I have been using them for few years. They are professional, reliable (especially in emergencies (springs breaking)), customer service is always polite and helpful, and their prices cannot be beat!!Deborah · Google review
Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

The owner is the real deal and makes good on all promises - We love doing business with him and don't hesitate to refer this business to all. He's that good!Ryan · Google review
Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review

Most gate problems have a simple first check: is there power, is the battery charged and is anything in the path or in front of a sensor? Check those before you call, and leave everything else alone.
Springs are not the issue on a gate, but motors, chains and moving leaves can still pinch and crush. Keep hands out of hinges, tracks and drive parts.

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Carson
City permits. Carson Building and Safety is in the Community Development Department at 701 E. Carson Street, phone (310) 830-7600 (Monday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.), email building@carsonca.gov, with permits through the Carson Civic Access portal linked from carsonca.gov. The city page does not mention gates, gate operators or an exemption list, so we could not confirm whether a gate or its wiring needs a permit. Call the city before a new gate or new electrical work.
Fire service. Wikipedia says Los Angeles County Fire provides fire protection in Carson. We found no Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone designation for the city and could not confirm either way.
Fire department access. A locked gate can slow emergency crews. Ask the local fire department what it requires, for example a key switch or Knox box, before you install or change an entry.
Design rules. Planned communities and HOAs can limit gate style, height and color. Ask first, and we can give you a written scope for their review.
Entrapment protection. The UL 325 standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for devices such as photo eyes or contact edges. We test these devices every time we repair an operator.
Carson gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Carson?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Carson (ZIP codes 90745, 90746 and 90810) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Carson?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Carson means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Carson?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
Hum without movement points to a binding gate or a failed capacitor, gear or arm. Keep the operator off, and we free the gate and test the parts.
How much does gate repair cost in Carson?
A sensor, remote or hinge costs far less than an operator or a rebuilt post. We quote after we see the problem and before we start, so you know the price first.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Carson?
Carson's street ZIP codes are 90745, 90746 and 90810. ZIP code 90810 is also used for part of Long Beach, and many Carson addresses carry a Long Beach mailing name, so call us with your address if you are not sure which city you are in.
Can you repair a gate at a Carson townhome or HOA community?
Yes. Shared entries involve an association, so we ask who authorizes the work, then test the operator, keypad, sensors and remotes. Check your association's rules before replacing a gate or access system.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Carson too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Carson for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
