I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review

Hillside lots, longer drives and planned communities
Chino Hills is a city of about 77,000 residents in San Bernardino County. According to the Census Bureau's 2024 one-year American Community Survey, about 71 percent of its housing units are single-family detached houses, about 65 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied and the median home was built in 1990.
Wikipedia describes much of the city as rolling hills and open land, including Chino Hills State Park, and names the master-planned areas of Butterfield Ranch, Rolling Ridge, Los Serranos and Vellano. It does not say which are gated or run by an HOA, and real-estate sites describe Vellano as a gated golf community, a weaker source. Check your own association's rules before you change a gate. On a sloped driveway a gate can drift, and a sliding gate has to fight gravity on its track.
From a hillside driveway to a shared community entrance, we start with the gate, then test the operator, the sensors and the remotes.

Why gates in Chino Hills stop working
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The gate does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does nothing at all | No power, a tripped breaker or a dead battery | Check power, breaker and battery, then the control board |
| Motor hums, gate does not move | A binding gate, a worn gear or arm, or a failed capacitor | Free the gate, then repair or replace the failed part |
| Gate stops halfway or reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, a safety edge or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors, test the edge, reset the force |
| Gate sags or drags on the ground | Worn hinges, a post that has shifted or a heavy frame | Reset hinges and posts, brace or square the frame |
| Remote works only up close | A weak remote battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery, test the receiver and the range |
| Dead after a power cut | A drained or failed backup battery | Test and replace the battery, check the charger |
Keep children, pets and vehicles clear of a gate that is leaning, dragging or damaged.

What Chino Hills' conditions do to a gate
Wikipedia's climate chart for Chino Hills, credited to Weather.com and the National Weather Service, puts average monthly highs between 68 degrees in winter and 89 degrees in July and August. Long hot spells age backup batteries and plastic parts.
Two large fires pushed through the city under Santa Ana winds. The Freeway Complex Fire of November 2008 reached Chino Hills, and ABC7 reported gusts above 50 mph in some areas during the October 2020 Blue Ridge Fire, which led to mandatory evacuations in Chino Hills and Yorba Linda. In weather like that, power can drop, so know how to open your gate by hand and keep the battery backup healthy.
Test the backup battery before fire season and make sure everyone at home knows where the manual release is.
- Test backup batteries before fire season
- Learn where the manual release is

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Chino Hills
City permits. Chino Hills Building & Safety is part of the Community Development Department at City Hall, 14000 City Center Drive, phone (909) 364-2780, and permits and inspections run through the city's online portal, linked from chinohills.org. City Hall is open Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The city pages we read do not say whether a gate, a gate operator or its wiring needs a permit, so call before a new gate or new electrical work.
Fire rules. The Chino Valley Fire District serves Chino Hills and adopted Ordinance 2025-01 on July 9, 2025, effective September 1, 2025. The city's Development Code also has a Fire Hazard Overlay District. Check your address in the district's map viewer to see which zone applies.
Emergency access. Fire and police need a way in. Before you install or change a locked entry, ask the local fire department about key switches and Knox boxes.
HOA review. Many associations review exterior changes such as gates. Check yours before you change a gate's design or color.
UL 325. This safety standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or safety edges. We test them before we leave.

Chino Hills gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Chino Hills?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Chino Hills (ZIP 91709) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Chino Hills?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Chino Hills means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Chino Hills?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
The gate is probably binding, or a gear, arm or capacitor has failed. Do not keep running it, because that can burn out the motor. Call us and we free the gate and test the operator.
How much does gate repair cost in Chino Hills?
It depends on the gate type and the failed part. A remote, battery or sensor costs far less than a control board, an operator or a rebuilt post. We find the fault first, quote the price and start work only after you agree.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Chino Hills?
Chino Hills uses ZIP code 91709. The 91710 ZIP is labeled Chino, so we could not confirm it for Chino Hills addresses. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Do you repair gates in the Chino Hills fire hazard zones?
Yes. The city said in a March 2025 release that more than 24,000 acres of Chino Hills fall in one of the state's fire hazard severity zones, most of them Very High. Those zones are about defensible space and building standards. They do not stop us repairing an existing gate, and we can check that your gate opens by hand if the power fails.
Does my HOA have to approve a gate repair?
The City of Chino Hills does not regulate HOA design approval, so check your own association's rules. A like-for-like repair of an existing gate is a different question from a new gate, so ask your association before you change how a gate looks.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Chino Hills too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Chino Hills for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
