What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina Β· Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela Β· Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn Β· Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel Β· Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory Β· Google review

Older single-family streets
Lynwood is an older city. According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, the median home was built in 1952, about 55 percent of housing units are detached houses and about 68 percent are houses or townhomes, with roughly 20 percent in buildings of five or more units. About 48 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, so a slight majority of households rent.
Homes from the early 1950s often have original walls, posts and driveways, and a gate added later may sit on a narrow lot with tight clearances. We could not confirm any named gated or HOA community in Lynwood, so check with your landlord or association before changing a shared entry.
On these gates we look first at hinges, posts, tracks and rollers, then test the operator, the sensors and the keypad.
- Gates added to older single-family lots
- Shared entries at small apartment buildings
- Operators, keypads and remotes that have aged

Why gates in Lynwood stop working
Some of these have a quick check you can try. If they do not solve it, call us.
| What you notice | Likely cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Sliding gate jumps or scrapes on its track | Worn wheels, a dirty or bent track or a loose guide roller | Clean and straighten the track, replace wheels and rollers |
| Gate opens by itself or will not stay closed | A stuck input, a loop or sensor fault, or a loose latch | Trace the input, repair the sensor, realign the latch |
| Keypad or intercom is dead | Water in the unit, a wiring fault or a failed unit | Test the wiring, dry out or replace the keypad or intercom |
| Swing gate will not latch | The gate has dropped or the strike has moved | Realign the gate and the latch |
| Operator is slow or noisy | Dry hinges or bearings, a worn gear or arm, or a weak battery | Lubricate, replace the worn part, test the battery |
| Gate opens one way only | A limit setting, an obstruction or a failed board input | Reset the limits, clear the path, test the board |
Never stand in the path of an automatic gate while you test it.

What a Lynwood heat wave does to a gate
The city's own press release, reported by Patch, said Lynwood reached a record 111 degrees during the early September 2020 heat wave, and that more than 1,000 Lynwood households lost power for part or all of several days. Heat is hard on batteries, plastic housings and lubricants, and an outage can leave an electric gate stuck.
There is no weather station in Lynwood. Wikipedia's table for adjacent Compton lists average highs from 77 to 82 degrees between June and September and about 14 inches of rain a year, mostly in winter. We could not confirm Lynwood wind figures.
Before summer, replace an aging backup battery, wipe the sensors and learn where the manual release is.

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Lynwood
City permits. Lynwood Building and Safety is at City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, (310) 603-0220 ext. 289, with permits handled through the city's online Citizen Access Portal, linked from lynwoodca.gov. The division's page does not mention gates, fences or electrical work, so we could not confirm whether a gate, a gate operator or its wiring needs a permit. Call the city before a new gate or new electrical work.
Emergency access. Gates can affect how fire and police reach a property. Ask the local fire department about key switch or Knox box requirements before you install or change a locked entry.
HOAs. If your neighborhood has an HOA with an architectural review board, ask before you change the design or color of a gate. We can write a scope of work for the review.
Safety standard. Automatic gate operators are covered by the UL 325 safety standard, which calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or safety edges. We test those devices before the gate goes back into service.

Lynwood gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Lynwood?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Lynwood (ZIP 90262) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Lynwood?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Lynwood means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Lynwood?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
A humming operator with a gate that will not move usually means the gate is jammed or a part in the operator has failed, such as a capacitor or gear. Stop using it and call us before the motor burns out.
How much does gate repair cost in Lynwood?
The price depends on what failed, the size and weight of the gate and the parts. We quote after we see the gate or photos, and before work starts.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Lynwood?
Lynwood has one ZIP code, 90262, covering about 4.8 square miles. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Does a power outage stop an electric gate in Lynwood?
It can. The city said more than 1,000 Lynwood households lost power for part or all of several days during the September 2020 heat wave. A healthy backup battery lets the gate keep working for a while, and the manual release lets you open it by hand. We test the battery and the release.
Do you repair gates at apartment buildings in Lynwood?
Yes. Shared entries usually need the owner or property manager to approve the work. We repair the gate, the operator, the keypad or intercom and the sensors.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Lynwood too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Lynwood for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
