Single-family houses from the 1960s and 1970s
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in Pinole was built in 1970. About 79 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, and about 87 percent of homes are single-family houses, either detached (74 percent) or attached (13 percent). Only about one home in ten sits in a building with five or more units. That is a lot of original attached garages, and a door that old has often had its springs and opener replaced at least once.
Wikipedia says Ygnacio Martinez received the Rancho El Pinole land grant in 1823 and built a hacienda in Pinole Valley, now Pinole Valley Park, and that the Fernandez Mansion still stands at the end of Tennent Avenue. Interstate 80 was built through Pinole in 1958. The downtown historic district keeps much of its turn-of-the-century buildings. We could not verify any named homeowners association or gated community, so check your own association rules.
Tell us your cross street and whether the garage is a single door or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing springs, because a heavier insulated door needs different springs than an original steel one.

What Pinole conditions do to a garage door
Wikipedia has no climate table for Pinole. The closest published normals are Richmond's NOAA 1991-2020 table, about five miles south, which puts the average high near 71 degrees in July and about 24 inches of rain a year. We are quoting those as Richmond figures, not Pinole measurements, and we did not verify wind or fog data for Pinole. Rain works into tracks and bottom seals, and dry summers age lubricant and rubber.
Wikipedia's Hayward Fault page says a 2015 survey found the Hayward and Rodgers Creek faults smoothly linked between Point Pinole and Lower Tubbs Island under San Pablo Bay, so Pinole is at the northern end of the Hayward Fault. Pinole is also one of 12 Contra Costa cities with Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone areas in the 2025 State Fire Marshal maps, according to Contra Costa news; we could not verify where in the city. An opener without a working battery backup cannot lift the door when the power is out.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges and press the test button on the battery backup. Know where the manual-release cord hangs, and call us before you open a door whose spring looks broken.
- Check tracks and brackets after an earthquake
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Oil rollers and hinges twice a year
What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review

Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
City permits. Pinole is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Pinole, not Contra Costa County. The Building Division's phone number is (510) 724-8912, taken from search-result text quoting the city's permit pages, which did not open for us. Those pages say the division offers same-day over-the-counter permits, in person and by virtual appointment, for a variety of minor permits, and they advise calling before you start construction. The city's building permits page mentions window and door installation or replacement, but we could not tell whether that is a permit list or an exempt list, and we found no garage-door-specific rule. Ask the Building Division before a full replacement, at pinole.gov.
Fire zones and historic areas. Pinole has areas in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, according to Contra Costa news on the 2025 State Fire Marshal maps, and we could not verify where. The downtown historic district keeps its turn-of-the-century buildings, and we found no door rule for it, so ask the city first if your property is downtown.

Is there garage door repair near me in Pinole?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Pinole (ZIP 94564) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Pinole?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Pinole?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Pinole?
Pinole uses one ZIP code, 94564. We also serve nearby Richmond, San Pablo and Hercules, so call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does a garage door replacement in Pinole need a permit?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule for Pinole. Call the Pinole Building Division at (510) 724-8912 to ask whether your door or opener work needs a permit, and confirm that number with the city first.
Is Pinole near the Hayward Fault, and should I worry about my garage door?
Pinole is at the northern end of the Hayward Fault, according to Wikipedia's page on the fault zone. After a strong shake, watch the door and look for gaps, bent tracks or loose brackets before you run it. If the door looks crooked or a spring has moved, stop using it and call us.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often handle a simple job such as a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Pinole?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
