Former citrus country with houses built mostly after 1970
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in Placentia was built in 1976. About 60 percent of homes are detached single-family houses, about 11 percent are attached, and about 64 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. That is newer than most of its neighbors, but a door or opener installed in the 1970s or 1980s can still be due for replacement.
Wikipedia says the first commercial orange grove was planted here in 1880, the town core grew around a Santa Fe Railroad stop around 1910, and oil found in 1919 led to the town of Richfield, later Atwood. Placentia was incorporated on 2 December 1926 and is a charter city covering about 6.6 square miles. George Key Ranch Historic District, a citrus ranch with a Victorian house, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is now a park with a museum.
We look at the whole door before we quote: the springs, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks and opener. On a house that is not very old, the opener and a few worn parts are often what needs attention, not the door itself.

Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review

What Placentia weather and shaking do to a garage door
Wikipedia gives no temperature table for Placentia, so these figures come from WeatherSpark, a third-party weather site that does not name its station. It puts the hot season, with highs above 83 degrees, from about 1 July to 27 September, August as the hottest month with an average high of 86, February as the wettest at about 3 inches and July at almost none. Aggregator sites disagree on annual rainfall, so we quote no total.
WeatherSpark says wind is highest in December, at an average of 7.6 mph, and lowest in August, with winter winds more from the east. Wikipedia says the 2008 Chino Hills earthquake nearly collapsed the roof of Placentia's public library and closed the building for repairs. We found no dated Placentia wind, heat or power-outage record.
Each season, wipe dust off the tracks and the two sensors near the floor, oil the rollers and hinges and press the battery-backup test button. After a noticeable shake, look at the tracks and brackets before you run the opener.
- Wipe tracks and sensors each season
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Check tracks and brackets after a noticeable shake

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Placentia
Battery backup. California requires a battery backup on residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state (Health and Safety Code section 19892). A new door cannot be connected to an older opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
Design rules. Planned communities and historic overlays can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.
Placentia Building Division. The division is at City Hall, 401 East Chapman Avenue, phone (714) 993-8124 (placentia.org). The city page lists counter hours of Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., closed Friday to Sunday. Inspections are booked by phone for Monday to Thursday between 9 and 5 with no same-day booking, and a $123 re-inspection fee applies to same-day cancellations, no-shows and projects not ready. Plans accepted on or after 1 January 2026 follow the 2025 California Building Code.
Is a permit needed? The city's exemption page lists items such as fences under 3 feet, retaining walls up to 4 feet, small sheds up to 120 square feet and painting, and says separate electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits are still required unless exempt. It does not mention garage doors or openers, so we could not confirm whether a garage door or opener replacement needs a permit. Call the division before a replacement and confirm with the city.

Is there garage door repair near me in Placentia?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Placentia (ZIP 92870) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Placentia?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Placentia?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Placentia?

Does a garage door replacement need a permit in Placentia?

Which cities border Placentia?
Wikipedia lists Fullerton, Brea, Yorba Linda and Anaheim as the adjacent cities. Buena Park and La Habra are nearby but do not border Placentia. Each city has its own government and rules, so check which city your address is in.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often deal with a dirty sensor or a worn roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and can injure someone, so leave those to a trained technician.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
