A city that grew from farmland after 1958
According to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2020-2024, Country Club Hills has about 6,074 housing units with a median year built of 1976. The 1970s are the biggest building decade at about 30 percent, followed by the 1960s at about 14 percent, the 1990s at about 14 percent, the 1980s at about 13 percent and the 1950s at about 12 percent, so about 62 percent of homes date from before 1980. Wikipedia says the area was a German farming community called Copper's Grove before the city incorporated in 1958.
About 74 percent of the city's homes are single-family detached houses, about 16 percent are attached houses and about 6 percent are in buildings of five or more units, and about 74 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, according to the same survey. What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review

What Country Club Hills weather does to a garage door
The nearest official station table we could verify is Chicago Midway Airport, roughly 15 miles away: January highs near 33 degrees and lows near 20, July highs near 85, about 41 inches of precipitation and about 39 inches of snow a year, with a record low of minus 25 degrees. It is a stand-in, not a reading from Country Club Hills. Cold stiffens grease and weatherstripping and puts extra load on springs, cables and the opener.
On August 10, 2020 a derecho crossed northern Illinois. The National Weather Service in Chicago logged over 160 damaging-wind reports in its area and said at least a million customers lost power across the wider damage area, some for more than two weeks. We could not verify city-only damage numbers. In a long outage, know where your manual release is.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse. After a snowfall, clear the bottom seal so the door does not freeze to the slab.
- Clear snow and ice from the bottom seal
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year
- Know where the manual release is

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Country Club Hills
Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Country Club Hills is an incorporated city with its own government. The Community Development and Building Department is at City Hall, phone (708) 798-2616 and Buildingdept@countryclubhills.org, and the website is countryclubhills.org. The city's permit sheet says new construction, additions, alterations and repairs need a permit and normal maintenance and repairs do not, and tells residents to call if unsure. It does not name garage doors or openers, so we could not confirm the rule for a garage door. Call the department before the work.
Contractor rules. The same sheet, dated 2022, says every contractor doing construction work in the city needs a city contractor's license, a $10,000 surety bond and a certificate of insurance, with a $150 fee. We could not confirm that these are current or that they apply to garage door work, so ask the city what applies to your job.
State rules. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's list of regulated professions has a roofing contractor category but no garage door, overhead door or general contractor category, so we found no state garage door contractor license. The Illinois Attorney General's home repair page says contractors should give you the Home Repair Consumer Rights document on jobs valued at $1,000 or more and describes a written contract that names the contractor and lists the work, dates, total cost and payment schedule. It also gives you 3 business days to cancel a contract you signed at home (15 business days if you are 65 or older).

Country Club Hills garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Country Club Hills?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Country Club Hills (ZIP 60478) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (312) 620-1952, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Country Club Hills?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Country Club Hills?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Country Club Hills?
Country Club Hills has one ZIP code, 60478, which Tinley Park addresses also use. Call us if your address is near Oak Forest, Markham, Hazel Crest or Matteson and you are not sure we reach it.
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Country Club Hills?
The city's permit sheet says new construction, alterations and repairs need a permit and that normal maintenance and repairs do not, but it does not name garage doors, so we could not confirm the rule. Call the department at (708) 798-2616 before the work. We explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Can you fix a garage door that came with an older Country Club Hills house?
Yes. Doors, springs and openers from the 1960s and 1970s are common here. Tell us what the door does and we weigh and balance it, then explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
