Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review

A big city of houses from the 1970s to the 1990s, with older streets near downtown
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 one-year American Community Survey, El Paso has about 267,800 housing units. About 66 percent are single-family detached houses, about 62 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, and the median year built is 1985. Many original doors and openers on those houses are 30 to 40 years old, and older streets near downtown are older still.
Wikipedia says the settlement dates to 1680, the town was laid out in 1859 and incorporated in 1873, and Fort Bliss is the city's largest employer. Wikipedia describes Sunset Heights as a neighborhood from the late 1890s, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, and Kern Place as a subdivision begun in 1914 with architecturally varied homes. We could not verify whether either area reviews garage door changes, so ask the city before you replace a door that faces the street there.

What El Paso weather does to a garage door
El Paso International Airport's 1991-2020 normals give a July mean daily high of 95.8 degrees, a January mean daily low of 34.5 and 8.78 inches of rain a year, with a record low of minus 8 degrees. Wikipedia reports a February 2011 freeze with a high of 15 degrees on February 2 and a low of 1 degree on February 3. Heat dries seals and wears springs, and hard cold stiffens grease and the opener's moving parts.
Wikipedia describes frequent dust and sand storms from March to early May with gusts over 75 mph. The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning for March 18, 2025, naming downtown, east, northeast and west El Paso, with west winds of 40 to 50 mph, gusts to 70 mph and a Blowing Dust Advisory. Wikipedia also records up to 10 inches of rain in a week in the late July and early August 2006 floods, and an October 14, 2025 flood advisory listed East, Northeast, Central and Far East El Paso and the Mission Valley as places that might see minor flooding. Wind bends tracks, dust packs into rollers, and water that reaches the bottom seal or opener can ruin them.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse. After a dust storm or a heavy rain, clear the track and check the bottom seal before you run the opener.
- Wipe dust out of tracks and rollers
- Check the bottom seal after heavy rain

Opener safety, permits and design rules in El Paso
Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. El Paso is its own city, so its rules come from the City of El Paso. Planning and Inspections is at the One Stop Shop, 811 Texas Ave., phone (915) 212-0104, and permit applications go through the city's Citizen Access Portal; the lobby is open Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and Friday, 8:00 to 11:30 AM. The city's site is elpasotexas.gov. The page says a permit is required to build, enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building, but it does not mention garage doors or openers, so we could not confirm whether replacing a door or an opener needs one. Call the One Stop Shop before the work.
Texas rules. We found no Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. A Texas Department of Public Safety page dated 2020 says installing garage door openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes. We also could not confirm a wind-load rule, and homeowner association approval, where an association exists, is separate from any city permit, so check your own deed restrictions before you choose a new door.

El Paso garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in El Paso?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in El Paso (ZIP 79901) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in El Paso?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in El Paso?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in El Paso?
El Paso's street ZIP codes include 79901 to 79908, 79910 to 79912, 79915, 79916, 79918, 79922, 79924, 79925, 79930, 79932, 79934 to 79936 and 79938; some of these also reach nearby communities outside the city. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does a dust storm or high wind damage a garage door in El Paso?
It can. The National Weather Service warned of gusts to 70 mph on March 18, 2025, and strong gusts push on wide doors, bend tracks and pack dust into rollers and opener gears. After a storm we inspect the track, panels, springs and opener, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Can I change the garage door on a house in Sunset Heights?
Sunset Heights is a National Register historic district, listed in 1988. We could not verify whether the city reviews garage door changes there, so ask the City of El Paso before you replace a door that faces the street. We can still repair springs, cables and openers.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
