Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review

Newer homes in master-planned neighborhoods
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey (5-year estimates), Melissa has about 6,266 housing units. About 92 percent are single-family detached houses and about 89 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median year built is 2015, and Wikipedia counted 4,444 units at the 2020 census, so most homes here are under 12 years old.
Builder and relocation pages name communities such as Willow Grove, Brookfield, Liberty, Country Ridge and Berry Farms, and some of them have homeowner association dues. We could not verify the association rules, so ask yours about door style and color before you order a new door.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. Many Melissa doors are still young, so the usual calls are a sensor that stopped seeing, a remote that lost its code, a door that rubs or an opener that needs a battery or a new board.

What Melissa weather does to a garage door
Melissa has no climate table of its own, so we use Wikipedia's weather box for McKinney, which borders it (NOAA data). It gives a July mean daily high of 92.7 degrees, a January mean low of 31.1 and about 41 inches of rain a year. Summer heat wears springs, cables, seals and opener motors, and a hard freeze stiffens the lubricant on rollers and hinges.
Wikipedia records that an F4 tornado struck Melissa on April 13, 1921, killing 13 people and wrecking most of the town. Storm-spotter reports on a hail-tracking site list hen-egg-size hail near Melissa in September 2025. Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 caused the largest outage in Texas history, so know where your manual release is.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse. After a hail or wind storm, look for dented panels and bent track sections before you run the opener.
- Check panels and tracks after hail
- Know where the manual release is
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Melissa
Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Melissa is its own city. City Hall is at 3411 Barker Avenue, phone 972-838-2338, and permits are applied for through the city's online portal at cityofmelissa.com; the Residential Permits page says residential building permits can take 7 to 10 working days. A 2021 city news release says the code of ordinances requires a permit for mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs and registration of those contractors with the city. Neither that release nor the Residential Permits page mentions garage doors, and an opener involves electrical work, so we could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule. Ask the city before the work.
Texas rules. We found no Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. A Texas Department of Public Safety page dated 2020 says installing garage door or gate openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes.

Melissa garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Melissa?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Melissa (ZIP 75454) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Melissa?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Melissa?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Melissa?
Melissa's standard ZIP code is 75454. If your mailing address uses a different ZIP, call us and we will tell you whether we reach your street.
Do you service garage doors in Melissa's planned communities?
Yes. Melissa has several master-planned and builder neighborhoods, and some have homeowner associations. Check your association's rules on door style and color before you choose a new door, and tell us when you call so we can plan the visit.
My Melissa garage door is only a few years old and still acts up. Why?
Newer doors usually need small fixes: a sensor knocked out of line, a remote that lost its code, a roller that wore early, or springs that were never balanced well. We check all of it on the same visit and quote the price before we start.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
