Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review

From brick-only subdivisions to 1980s two-story homes
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 five-year American Community Survey, North Richland Hills has about 28,900 housing units and the median home was built in 1986. About 66 percent of the units are single-family detached houses and about 63 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. That makes many original doors and openers 35 to 40 years old.
Wikipedia says the city incorporated in 1953 after the Jones Farm subdivision began in 1952, and that the first section of the original subdivision, 188 homes, was restricted to brick and masonry construction. Smithfield was annexed in 1960, and the population grew from 8,662 in 1960 to 69,917 in 2020. We service both the older brick streets and the newer ones.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.
- Original springs and openers on 1980s homes
- Brick-front homes that need a matching door

What your garage door is telling you in North Richland Hills
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The door does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| A loud bang from the garage | A torsion spring snapped | Replace both springs and balance the door |
| The door shakes or scrapes going up | Worn rollers, dry hinges or loose track bolts | Replace rollers, tighten the track and lubricate |
| The door stops partway and reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors and reset the force |
| Daylight shows under the door | A worn bottom seal or an uneven door | Replace the seal and level the door |
| The opener is slow or very noisy | An old chain or belt, or a worn motor | Service or replace the opener and test the safety reverse |
Do not run a door that is crooked or heavy.

What North Richland Hills weather does to a garage door
DFW Airport's 1991-2020 normals on Wikipedia give a July mean daily high of 95.6 degrees and a January mean low of 36.1, with about 37 inches of precipitation a year. Summer heat wears springs and seals, and a freeze stiffens lubricant on rollers and hinges.
On March 2, 2023, CBS Texas reported that North Richland Hills was hit especially hard by storms: wind broke utility poles, knocked over trees and fences and damaged roofs. About 9,000 customers lost power at the peak and traffic signals were out at 15 major intersections. Wind like that can push a door out of its track, and an outage means the manual release matters.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse. After a storm, look at the track and the top panel before you run the opener.
- Check tracks after high wind
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year
- Know where the manual release is

Opener safety, permits and design rules in North Richland Hills
Safety reverse and sensors. A home garage door opener sold in the United States has to reverse the door on contact and have photo-eye sensors or an equivalent entrapment protection device, under the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission standard (16 CFR part 1211). A door that closes on an object, or an opener with dead sensors, needs repair before further use. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic district rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
City permits. North Richland Hills is its own city. Building Inspections and Permits is at 4301 City Point Drive, phone 817-427-6300, and permits run through the NRH E-Portal. The city says every contractor doing work that needs a permit must register with it online, with no annual registration fee, and that the homeowner is responsible for making sure the contractor pulls the right permits. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement or an opener swap needs a permit, so call Building Inspections before the work or visit nrhtx.com.
Texas rules. We found no Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. The Texas Department of Public Safety says installing garage door or gate openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can monitor or log who comes and goes.

North Richland Hills garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in North Richland Hills?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in North Richland Hills (ZIP 76180) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in North Richland Hills?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in North Richland Hills?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in North Richland Hills?
The main street ZIP codes are 76180 and 76182. Parts of the city also fall in other ZIP areas, such as 76117 and 76118, and sources disagree on exactly which. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you repair doors after a wind storm in North Richland Hills?
Yes. Strong wind can bend a track, push a door out of its frame or crack a top panel. We inspect the track, panels, springs and opener, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
What should I do with my garage door during a power outage?
Pull the red cord on the opener trolley to disconnect the door and lift it by hand. Springs carry most of the weight, so a balanced door lifts easily. If it feels heavy or drops, do not force it and call us.
Do you serve homes in the Keller ISD part of the city?
Yes. Most of the city is in Birdville ISD and the north part is in Keller ISD, but school lines make no difference to us. We serve homes on both sides.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
