A navy town of older ranches and neighborhoods
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 five-year American Community Survey, Bremerton has about 19,700 housing units. About 52 percent are single-family detached houses and about 48 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median year built is 1969, so original springs, rollers and openers are often well past their service life.
Wikipedia names Downtown, Manette, Charleston, Union Hill, Evergreen, Haddon and East Bremerton, which lies northeast of the Port Washington Narrows. Manette was annexed in 1918 and Charleston in 1927. The city is home to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and its ZIP 98312 also covers Kitsap Lake, Navy Yard City and other places outside the city limits.

What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review

What Bremerton weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's 1991-2020 table for Bremerton gives about 57 inches of precipitation a year, about 3 inches of snow, a July mean high near 77 degrees and a January mean high near 47. A record low of 7 degrees is on record. Rain and damp rust springs, cables, hinges and track screws and swell door edges.
Puget Sound Energy said about 22,000 customers in Kitsap County and on Vashon Island were affected by the November 19, 2024 bomb cyclone, according to the Kitsap Daily News. When the power fails, the opener will not lift the door, so know where the manual release is and how to lift the door by hand.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges and test the safety reverse. If a wood door sticks in wet weather, tell us; swollen edges can strain the opener.
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year
- Look for rust on springs and cables
- Know where the manual release is

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Bremerton
Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Bremerton is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Bremerton. The Department of Community Development is at 345 6th Street, Suite 600, phone 360-473-5275, bremertonwa.gov. The city's handout on when a permit is required (revised 2014, based on the 2015 codes, so it may be out of date) lists sheds, fences, small decks, retaining walls and single-family re-roofs as exempt, does not list garage doors and says work not listed needs a permit. We could not confirm the current rule for a garage door replacement, so call the department before the work.
State rules. Washington requires construction contractors, general or specialty, to register with the Washington Department of Labor & Industries. L&I's contractor page lists bond minimums of $30,000 for general contractors and $15,000 for specialty contractors (it notes an increase from July 1, 2024), general liability insurance and a Verify a Contractor lookup at lni.wa.gov; use it for any contractor before you hire. We did not verify whether wiring an opener needs a separate electrical permit.

Bremerton garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Bremerton?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Bremerton (ZIP 98310) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (206) 970-4958, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Bremerton?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Bremerton?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Bremerton?
Bremerton's street ZIP codes are 98310, 98311, 98312 and 98337. 98314 is only for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Some of these ZIPs also cover places outside the city limits, so call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you service garage doors in Manette and East Bremerton?
Yes. We serve Manette, Charleston, Union Hill, East Bremerton, Kitsap Lake and the rest of the city. Tell us your street when you call and we book the soonest visit.
Why does my garage door stick when it rains?
Damp can swell wood door edges and rust tracks, rollers and hinges. We inspect the whole door, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
