Our approved prices run from $89 for a 12-point safety inspection to $250 to $450 for a standard torsion spring pair and $175 to $350 for a cable pair. The final price depends on the door's weight and size, the parts that failed and the opener. We confirm it after we see the door, and the quote should list each part.

2Why two quotes for the same symptom can differ
A door that will not move can have a broken spring, a snapped cable, a bent track or a failed opener. These sit in different price ranges, so the first job is diagnosis, and the $89 inspection covers that. A heavy insulated door needs a stronger spring than a light one, and a wider door needs more cable.
A single failure can also cause a second one. A snapped spring can fray a cable or bend a roller, so a good technician checks the whole system before leaving.
3Where springs, cables and openers fit
DASMA says spring systems should be repaired only by trained professionals and that cables should be replaced only by a trained technician, which is why those jobs are quoted as a repair visit, not a parts sale. See spring repair and cable repair.
If the opener is the issue, opener repair depends on whether a part can be replaced or the unit is worn out. Our approved range for installation labor alone is $150 to $450. A separate guide covers spring replacement cost in Oregon.
4What a written quote should list
The FTC says a written estimate should describe the work, the materials, the completion date and the price. For a garage door job that means:
- Each part by name, such as spring size and cycle rating, cable length and rollers
- Labor, and any extra for a heavy or oversized door
- Start and finish and how you pay
- What happens if the door has a second problem
- A signed copy with no blank spaces
5How to compare quotes in Oregon
The Oregon Construction Contractors Board advises getting more than one written bid for bigger jobs and understanding any wide variation. It warns against automatically taking the lowest bid, since a very low bid may leave something out. The FTC gives the same advice and says never to make the final payment until the work is done and you are satisfied. Compare parts and labor line by line, not only the total.
The Board also says a license is required for any business that advertises, bids or does repair work, and offers an online lookup before you sign.
