Garage Door Repair Cost in Utah: What Each Fix Costs

By Emil Garage Doors · Published November 2, 2026 · 5 min read · Costs and prices

Short answer

Common garage door repairs run from an $89 safety inspection to $900 for heavy-duty springs or a belt-drive opener. Springs, cables, off-track doors, rollers and sensors each have their own range in the table below. These are our ranges, and we confirm the final price after we see the door, because its weight and damage change the work.

Quick answers

How much does it cost to repair a garage door?

Our ranges run from an $89 safety inspection to $900 for heavy-duty springs or a belt-drive opener. Springs, cables, off-track repair, rollers and sensors each have their own range in the table.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

It depends on the part. A torsion spring pair is $250 to $450, a cable pair is $175 to $350 and an off-track repair is $175 to $450. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.

What should garage door repair cost?

It should match the parts and labor the quote lists. Ask for each part by name and the total in writing, and compare more than one estimate, as the Utah Division of Consumer Protection advises.

Why do two quotes for the same repair differ?

Door weight, spring size, parts and what the quote includes all change the price. A lower quote may leave out a part or the second spring.

Why the same repair can be priced differently

Weight is the first reason. A heavy insulated or wood door needs a stronger spring than a light single-layer steel door, and a two-car door needs more of everything than a single. DASMA, the garage door industry association, warns that putting the wrong spring on a door can shorten the life of the door and the opener motor and can make the door unsafe to lift by hand.

Damage is the second reason. A snapped cable can bend a drum or a bracket, and a door that left its track may have bent sections. Parts are quoted by type, and a tight garage or a wall-mount opener takes more time to reach.

How to read a repair quote

  1. Each part by name and size: springs, cables, rollers, sensors
  2. Labor for each task, and any diagnosis or trip charge
  3. What the repair covers and what it leaves out
  4. The total, and how long the price stands
  5. When payment is due, written down

Two quotes for the same job often differ because one leaves out a part, such as the second spring. Compare the lines, not only the bottom number.

Hiring for a repair in Utah

The Utah Division of Consumer Protection tells homeowners to get a written agreement that includes the price estimate, a summary of the work and the materials, to get estimates from several contractors and to ask for a receipt for any payment. It also says Utah requires contractors to hold a license and liability insurance and that you can check a license with the Division of Professional Licensing.

The Utah Insurance Department adds that you should get at least three written estimates, compare the bids and read them carefully, and it lists a demand for upfront payment as a warning sign. Take your time with any quote you are pressed to sign.

Repair or replace?

Repair is usually enough when

  • The damage is limited to a spring, a cable or a roller
  • The panels are straight and the door runs smoothly
  • A matching part is still available

Pricing a new door makes sense when

  • Several panels are dented, creased or rotted
  • The same door keeps going out of balance
  • You want better insulation or a new look

Do not repair a spring or cable yourself

Springs and cables hold the weight of the door

DASMA says spring systems are dangerous and should be repaired only by trained professionals, and that lift cables should be replaced only by a trained technician. If a spring or cable has broken, or the door is crooked or heavy, stop using it and call a technician.

DASMA also recommends a monthly safety check by the owner and a yearly visit from a trained door systems technician.
