What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review

Palo Verde Valley houses and mobile-home lots
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in Blythe was built in 1980. About 57 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. About 62 percent of all homes are detached houses and about 10 percent are mobile homes, so many garages are on single-family lots. Doors from around 1980 have often been fixed more than once. Wikipedia reports the 2020 census population at 18,317.
Blythe is far from the Los Angeles area, about 224 miles east of Los Angeles and 150 miles west of Phoenix, according to Wikipedia. It sits in the middle of the Palo Verde Valley on the Colorado River and is the only incorporated community in the valley, and Interstate 10 crosses the city east to west. Nearby places include Vidal to the north, Ripley to the south and Ehrenberg, Arizona, across the river. We found no named homeowners association or gated community.
Because Blythe is remote, a second trip costs real time, so give us the address, the door type and what it does when you call.. We weigh and balance each door before choosing springs.
- Original parts on doors from the 1980s
- Single-car and two-car doors on valley lots

What Blythe conditions do to a garage door
Wikipedia's climate table for Blythe Airport uses NOAA 1991-2020 normals. The mean daily high is 108.5 degrees in July and 68.2 in January, and the airport averages 179 days a year at 90 degrees or more. The record high is 124 degrees, set June 20, 2016. Annual rainfall averages 3.56 inches, with 1992 the wettest year at 9.16 inches and 1950 the driest at 0.31. Heat like this dries out lubricant and rubber seals and loads opener motors.
A National Weather Service Phoenix dust storm warning on Sunday, August 21, 2022 named Blythe, Palo Verde, Cibola and Ripley, along with Interstate 10 and State Route 78. It described a dust wall moving at 35 mph, visibility under a quarter mile and winds over 50 mph. Wikipedia says the completion of Boulder Dam in 1935 ended the valley's annual floods. We could not confirm Blythe's electric utility or any flash flooding in town, so we make no claim about either.
Wipe the tracks and clear fine dust from the rollers before summer, oil the hinges and rollers, and check the bottom seal. After a dust storm, sweep out the tracks before you run the door.
- Clear dust from the tracks after a storm
- Oil rollers and hinges before summer
- Check the bottom seal for cracks

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Blythe
Battery backup. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic overlay, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Blythe is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Blythe. Development Services is at 235 North Broadway. The Building Department's direct line is (760) 922-6130 and its hours are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the city's pages. The city's page on which work needs a permit lists items such as re-roofing, water heater changeouts, electrical, plumbing and block-wall fencing, but it does not mention garage doors or openers. We could not confirm whether a garage door or opener replacement needs a permit, so call the Building Department before the work or visit cityofblythe.ca.gov.
Other rules. We found no hillside, historic district or homeowners association rule for Blythe, and we could not verify whether your street is in a very high fire hazard severity zone. If you are unsure, ask the city before you order a new door.

Blythe garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Blythe?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Blythe (ZIP 92225) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Blythe?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Blythe?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Blythe?
Blythe homes use ZIP code 92225. ZIP code 92226 is for PO boxes. ZIP code 92280 belongs to Vidal, not to the city of Blythe. Blythe is remote, so give us your street address when you call and we confirm we reach it.
Does a garage door replacement in Blythe need a permit?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule for Blythe. The city's list of work that needs a permit does not mention garage doors or openers. Call the Building Department at (760) 922-6130 to ask whether your job needs one.
Do dust storms and desert heat hurt a garage door in Blythe?
Heat dries out lubricant and rubber seals, and fine dust packs into tracks and rollers. A 2022 National Weather Service warning named Blythe in a dust storm with winds over 50 mph. As general advice, sweep out the tracks after a storm, oil the moving parts and check the bottom seal each summer.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often handle a simple job such as a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Blythe?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
