Companies price a garage door visit in different ways, so ask before you book. With us, a 12-point safety inspection is $89 and covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener. Repairs are priced by the part, and the final price is confirmed after we see the door and before we start.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
There is no single price, because companies set a visit fee, a diagnosis fee or a flat repair price in different ways. The one number we publish is our 12-point safety inspection at $89. Repair prices are listed on our pages as ranges and confirmed at the door.
Ask every company three things: what the visit costs, what it covers and whether the fee is applied to the repair. Get the answers before anyone is sent out.

What does a service call cover?
A visit should leave you with a diagnosis, not just a bill. Clopay describes a thorough inspection as a check of the panels, springs, cables, rollers, hinges and tracks, plus safety sensor and auto-reverse tests.
- Finding the cause of the problem, such as a broken spring, a snapped cable or a misaligned sensor
- Checking the parts around it, because worn parts tend to fail together
- A clear quote for the repair before work begins
- A safety test of the door and opener once the work is done
Myth: the service call fixes the door
Fact: the visit finds the problem. The repair is the work that follows, and it is priced by the part. Our typical repairs include a torsion spring pair for $250 to $450, a lift cable pair for $175 to $350 and an off-track repair for $175 to $450. A tune-up, rollers or sensors are $150 to $350.
A fair quote names the part and the price before the technician starts, so you can say yes, say no or get a second opinion.

When does a visit cost more?
Some companies charge more for evenings, weekends or a long drive, and some add a fee for parts they do not stock. Those are policies, not rules. Ask whether a higher rate applies to your time and your address, and ask for the total before the visit is booked.
Our pricing for after-hours work is not listed here, so ask when you call and we will tell you the price for your visit.

What to have ready when you call
- The door size and, if you can see it, the brand.
- What the door did and what you heard, for example a loud bang or a door that will not lift.
- A photo of the springs, tracks or opener if it is safe to take one.
- Whether the opener is running or the door is stuck shut.
If the door is heavy, crooked or off its track, or a spring or cable looks broken, stop using it. Springs, cables and brackets are under high tension, so call a technician.
