1960s single-family houses on city lots, with apartments mixed in
Baldwin Park is a flat San Gabriel Valley city. According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, the median home was built in 1964, about 68 percent of homes are single-family detached houses, about 18 percent are in buildings of five or more units and about 58 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
Homes from the 1960s often still have their first gate hardware, or a gate added decades later with an operator that has been replaced once or twice. We could not confirm a named gated or HOA community in Baldwin Park, so check your own association's rules if you have one.
On a front-yard swing gate, a sliding driveway gate or a shared apartment entry, we start with the gate itself and then test the operator, the sensors and the keypad or remote.
- Gates added to 1960s houses and aging hardware
- Swing and sliding gates on city lots
- Shared entries at apartments and townhomes

What the San Gabriel Valley does to a gate
Wikipedia's climate table for Baldwin Park, which cites weather.com and is a weaker source, lists mean daily highs of 89 degrees in July, 90 in August and 88 in September, and a record high of 118. Heat like that ages gate batteries and softens plastic parts, and it dries out lubricants in hinges and rollers.
Wind and power shutoffs hit the region too. News summaries report that Southern California Edison shut off power to thousands of customers during Santa Ana winds in January 2025 and late October 2025, though those reports are not specific to Baldwin Park. When the power goes, an electric gate depends on its backup battery or a manual release.
Before summer, test the backup battery, lubricate the hinges and rollers and wipe the sensor lenses.
- Test the backup battery before summer
- Lubricate hinges and rollers each season
- Wipe photo-eye lenses and check the manual release

Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina Β· Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela Β· Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn Β· Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel Β· Google review

Most gate problems have a simple first check: is there power, is the battery charged and is anything in the path or in front of a sensor? Check those before you call, and leave everything else alone.
Springs are not the issue on a gate, but motors, chains and moving leaves can still pinch and crush. Keep hands out of hinges, tracks and drive parts.
- Check the outlet, breaker and battery
- Clear leaves, dirt and objects from the path and the sensors
- Leave the control board and wiring to us
Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Baldwin Park
City permits. Baldwin Park's Building and Safety Division is inside Community Development at City Hall, 14403 E. Pacific Avenue, (626) 813-5265, open Monday to Thursday, with more on baldwinpark.com. The city page does not mention gates or gate operators, so we could not confirm whether a gate or its wiring needs a permit. Call before you change the opening or the wiring.
Fire service. Baldwin Park contracts fire and rescue with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, so ask it about key switch or Knox box requirements before you change a locked entry.
Fire department access. A locked gate can slow emergency crews. Ask the local fire department what it requires, for example a key switch or Knox box, before you install or change an entry.
Design rules. Planned communities and HOAs can limit gate style, height and color. Ask first, and we can give you a written scope for their review.
Entrapment protection. The UL 325 standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for devices such as photo eyes or contact edges. We test these devices every time we repair an operator.
Baldwin Park gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Baldwin Park?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Baldwin Park (ZIP 91706) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Baldwin Park?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Baldwin Park means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Baldwin Park?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
Hum without movement points to a binding gate or a failed capacitor, gear or arm. Keep the operator off, and we free the gate and test the parts.
How much does gate repair cost in Baldwin Park?
A sensor, remote or hinge costs far less than an operator or a rebuilt post. We quote after we see the problem and before we start, so you know the price first.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Baldwin Park?
Baldwin Park's only ZIP code is 91706, which also carries the Irwindale alias, so some 91706 addresses are outside the city. City rules follow the address, not the ZIP. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Is Baldwin Park in a wildfire zone?
A sample of points across the city on the state's fire hazard map all fell outside the wildfire zones, and the city is flat. Heat and power cuts still affect gate operators and batteries, so the backup battery and manual release matter here too.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Baldwin Park too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Baldwin Park for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
