Mostly single-family homes, many near golf courses
La Quinta sits on the floor of the Coachella Valley in Riverside County. According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey estimates, about 86 percent of its housing units are one-unit homes (about 75 percent of all units are single-family detached), about 76 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied and the median home was built in 1999.
The same estimates count about 24,770 housing units but only about 15,960 occupied households, and the Census does not say why. Wikipedia names PGA West, SilverRock Golf Resort and the equestrian-oriented Griffin Ranch neighborhood but does not describe any of them as gated, and we could not confirm which La Quinta neighborhoods have gates or HOA rules, so check your own association's rules before you change a gate.
On a newer single-family lot, the gate is often a driveway swing gate or a sliding gate with an operator, a keypad and a pair of sensors. We check the gate and its hinges or track first, then test the operator, the control board and the safety devices.

Incredible honest work. Emil took care of all the repairs needed in order for my garage door to work again. I know I need a new garage door but I can't afford it right now this company was nice enough to fix it instead of hounding me for more money to get a new door. Emil was so nice that he even provided me a price. I was so happy he said I could call him when I had the money and he would honor me the price. amazing company to reach out to.Jasmine · Google review

Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review

What the desert does to a gate
Wikipedia's climate table for La Quinta uses the Indio fire station and lists an average annual high near 90 degrees, summer highs above 108 degrees that are common, and about 3.4 inches of rain a year. Long, hot summers are hard on backup batteries, plastic housings and lubricants.
KESQ reported that a high wind warning with gusts near 60 mph on March 15, 2021 led the Imperial Irrigation District to report 18 transmission poles down, with outages in La Quinta, Indio and Bermuda Dunes. A gate with a weak battery can be left stuck when the power goes out, and blowing sand settles on sensors and in sliding-gate tracks.
Before summer, wipe the sensor lenses, clear sand from the track, check the hinges and test the backup battery.
- Replace backup batteries before the hot months
- Wipe sensors and clear sand from tracks after wind
- Know where the manual release is in case the power fails
Why gates in La Quinta stop working
These are the faults we hear about most. The real cause is confirmed on site.
| Symptom | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate stuck open or stuck closed | A failed operator, a locked manual release or a power fault | Use the manual release as the maker directs, then diagnose the operator |
| Gate reverses without touching anything | Dirty photo eyes, a bent bracket or a force setting that is too low | Clean and realign the photo eyes and reset the force |
| Gate swings or slides unevenly | A leaf out of level, worn hinges or a loose track | Level the leaf, replace hinges, tighten the track |
| Clicking sound but no movement | A weak battery or a failed starting capacitor | Test the battery and the capacitor and replace the weak one |
| Solar gate stops after a few cycles | A weak panel, an old battery or shade on the panel | Test the panel and the battery, clean or move the panel |
| Remote or keypad gives no response | Dead batteries, a lost code or a receiver fault | Replace batteries, reprogram the code, test the receiver |
Do not run an operator against a gate that is jammed or dragging.

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in La Quinta
City permits. La Quinta's Building Division is part of the Design and Development Department at City Hall, 78-495 Calle Tampico, main number (760) 777-7000, email buildingdivision@laquintaca.gov, with more on laquintaca.gov. The city's website blocked our research tool, so we read this from search summaries. We could not confirm whether a gate, a gate operator or its wiring needs a permit, so call the Building Division before a new gate or new electrical work.
Fire department access. A locked gate can slow emergency crews. Ask the local fire department what it requires, for example a key switch or Knox box, before you install or change an entry.
Design rules. Planned communities and HOAs can limit gate style, height and color. Ask first, and we can give you a written scope for their review.
Entrapment protection. The UL 325 standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for devices such as photo eyes or contact edges. We test these devices every time we repair an operator.

La Quinta gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in La Quinta?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in La Quinta (ZIP 92253) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in La Quinta?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in La Quinta means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in La Quinta?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
Hum without movement points to a binding gate or a failed capacitor, gear or arm. Keep the operator off, and we free the gate and test the parts.
How much does gate repair cost in La Quinta?
A sensor, remote or hinge costs far less than an operator or a rebuilt post. We quote after we see the problem and before we start, so you know the price first.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in La Quinta?
La Quinta's street addresses use ZIP code 92253. ZIP codes 92247 and 92248 are PO box ZIPs. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Can wind and power outages stop an electric gate in La Quinta?
Yes. KESQ reported that a March 2021 wind event brought down 18 Imperial Irrigation District transmission poles and caused outages in La Quinta. Without power, an electric gate depends on its backup battery or a manual release, so we test the battery, the control board and the sensors.
Does my HOA need to approve a gate repair in La Quinta?
Some La Quinta homes sit in golf or planned communities, and we could not confirm which ones have gates or HOA rules about gates. A repair that keeps the gate as it is rarely changes its look, but check your association's architectural rules before you replace a gate or change its style.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in La Quinta too?
Yes. See garage door repair in La Quinta for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
