What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela Β· Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn Β· Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel Β· Google review

Golf-course homes, villas and country club entries
Rancho Mirage is a Coachella Valley city in Riverside County. According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey estimates, the median home was built in 1986, about 82 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, about 58 percent of housing units are single-family detached and about 28 percent are attached homes such as townhomes and villas.
The same estimates count about 15,000 housing units but only about 9,000 occupied by usual residents, and Wikipedia notes that the city has seasonal residents. Wikipedia names country club communities including Thunderbird, Tamarisk, Mission Hills, Rancho Las Palmas, The Springs, Sunrise, Morningside and Rancho Mirage Country Club. Listing sites describe several of them as guard-gated, but we could not confirm that with an official source, so check your own association's rules before you change a gate or an entry system.
Where a street or a building shares an entry, the main gate may belong to the association while the driveway gate behind it is yours. We repair whichever gate is yours to fix and test the keypads, receivers and sensors that tie them together.
- Driveway gates on golf-course homes and villas
- Keypads, intercoms and receivers at shared entries
- Operators and batteries that run through long summers

Why gates in Rancho Mirage stop working
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The gate does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does nothing at all | No power, a tripped breaker or a dead battery | Check power, breaker and battery, then the control board |
| Motor hums, gate does not move | A binding gate, a worn gear or arm, or a failed capacitor | Free the gate, then repair or replace the failed part |
| Gate stops halfway or reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, a safety edge or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors, test the edge, reset the force |
| Gate sags or drags on the ground | Worn hinges, a post that has shifted or a heavy frame | Reset hinges and posts, brace or square the frame |
| Remote works only up close | A weak remote battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery, test the receiver and the range |
| Dead after a power cut | A drained or failed backup battery | Test and replace the battery, check the charger |
Keep children, pets and vehicles clear of a gate that is leaning, dragging or damaged.

Summer heat and wind from the pass
Wikipedia's climate table for Rancho Mirage uses a station in the nearby mountain foothills, not in the city. It lists mean daily highs near 105 degrees in July and about 4.2 inches of rain a year. News reports put Palm Springs, about ten miles northwest, near 124 degrees in July 2024. Heat like that wears batteries, seals and plastic housings.
Wind funnels in from the San Gorgonio Pass: the Desert Sun reported that a March 2, 2024 high wind advisory for the Coachella Valley listed sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 65 mph. A wide or solid gate takes that wind on its hinges and latch, and a summer power cut leaves an electric gate running on its backup battery.
Before summer, test the backup battery, check the hinges and latches and keep the sensor lenses clean.
- Test backup batteries before summer
- Check hinges and latches after strong wind
- Keep sensor lenses and keypads clean of dust

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Rancho Mirage
City permits. City Hall is at 69825 Highway 111, and Rancho Mirage's Building & Safety can be reached at (760) 202-9253, with permits handled through the city's online portal, linked from ranchomirageca.gov. The city page we read lists separate permits for pools and spas, block walls over 30 inches, all retaining walls and solar or energy storage, but it does not mention gates or gate operators. We could not confirm whether a gate or its wiring needs a permit, so call Building & Safety before a new gate or new electrical work.
Emergency access. Fire and police need a way in. Before you install or change a locked entry, ask the local fire department about key switches and Knox boxes.
HOA review. Many associations review exterior changes such as gates. Check yours before you change a gate's design or color.
UL 325. This safety standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or safety edges. We test them before we leave.

Rancho Mirage gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Rancho Mirage?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Rancho Mirage (ZIP 92270) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Rancho Mirage?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Rancho Mirage means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Rancho Mirage?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
The gate is probably binding, or a gear, arm or capacitor has failed. Do not keep running it, because that can burn out the motor. Call us and we free the gate and test the operator.
How much does gate repair cost in Rancho Mirage?
It depends on the gate type and the failed part. A remote, battery or sensor costs far less than a control board, an operator or a rebuilt post. We find the fault first, quote the price and start work only after you agree.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Rancho Mirage?
Rancho Mirage uses ZIP code 92270. We found no PO-box-only ZIP for the city. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Do country club communities in Rancho Mirage have their own gate rules?
Wikipedia names many country club communities, and listing sites describe several as guard-gated. We could not confirm gate or HOA rules for any named community. If your gate is part of a shared entry, ask your association which parts you may repair and which it handles.
Does Rancho Mirage's summer heat shorten a gate operator's life?
We found no local failure statistics. Heat in the 100s ages batteries, plastic housings and lubricants, so a battery that is a few years old is worth testing before summer. We check the operator, the board and the safety devices when we repair a gate.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Rancho Mirage too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Rancho Mirage for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
