Driveway gate installation has no standard price, because the style, width, slope, materials, operator, power and safety devices all change the job. A sliding gate needs room along the fence, and a swing gate needs room to open. We give a written quote after a site visit. Use the list below to compare quotes.

1How much does it cost to install an electric gate?
The honest answer is that it depends on the opening and the build. Two driveways that look alike can need very different work once you add a slope, a long power run or a heavy gate.
We have not set a published price list for new gates, so this page gives no figure. It shows what drives a quote so you can compare them fairly.
2What drives the price
| Item | Why it matters | Sliding or swing |
|---|---|---|
| Gate style and material | Iron, aluminum, wood and steel differ in weight, finish and labor | Both |
| Opening width and height | A wider or taller gate is heavier and needs a stronger operator | Both |
| Slope of the driveway | A rising drive can make a swinging gate scrape the ground as it opens | Mostly swing |
| Room beside or inside the opening | A sliding gate needs open fence line, and a swing gate needs a clear arc | Different for each |
| Operator and power | Class I residential operators need power, control wiring and often a battery or solar kit | Both |
| Safety devices and signs | UL 325 calls for entrapment protection and warning signs on both sides of the gate | Both |
| Access control | Keypads, remotes, intercoms and exit loops add parts and wiring | Both |
These are factors, not prices. We confirm the price after a site visit.
3Is a sliding gate or a swing gate cheaper?
Neither is always cheaper. A sliding gate needs a track or a cantilever frame and open space along the fence. A swing gate needs hinges, posts that carry the weight, and a clear arc. The cost swings on your site, not on the gate type. For a full comparison see sliding vs swing gates.
UL 325 adds its own rules by type. A slide gate must have its openings guarded or screened from the bottom up to at least 4 feet above the ground, and exposed rollers must be guarded. A swing gate must not open into a public access area.
4Myth: the gate is the main cost
The gate leaf is only one part. Posts, footings, power, control wiring, the operator, sensors and access control often decide the total. Ask for the quote to show each of them.
5What a quote should list
- Gate style, material, finish, width and height
- The operator brand and model and its UL 325 class
- Entrapment protection devices and warning signs
- Power and control wiring, and any trenching or concrete
- Access control: keypad, remotes and intercom
- Permits and who obtains them, since rules vary by city
- Start date, finish date and warranty in writing
