The owner is the real deal and makes good on all promises - We love doing business with him and don't hesitate to refer this business to all. He's that good!Ryan · Google review
Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review

Mostly rented single-family homes and small apartment buildings
Wikipedia reports that, at the 2020 census, about two thirds of Lawndale's occupied homes were rented and about one third owner-occupied. City-stats.com, which republishes 2023 American Community Survey data, puts the median year built at 1965 and says about 70 percent of homes are single-family and about 29 percent are in multi-family buildings.
Because most homes are rented, a broken gate often involves the owner, a property manager and the tenant. Wikipedia notes that absentee landlords began buying property in Lawndale in the 1970s. We could not confirm any gated community or HOA in the city, so ask your landlord or association before a gate is changed.
On those lots we repair swing gates, sliding gates and their operators, then test the keypad, remotes and safety sensors so that everyone who uses the gate can open it again.
- Gates and operators on homes from the 1960s
- Rented homes where the owner or manager authorizes the repair

Why gates in Lawndale stop working
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The gate does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does nothing at all | No power, a tripped breaker or a dead battery | Check power, breaker and battery, then the control board |
| Motor hums, gate does not move | A binding gate, a worn gear or arm, or a failed capacitor | Free the gate, then repair or replace the failed part |
| Gate stops halfway or reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, a safety edge or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors, test the edge, reset the force |
| Gate sags or drags on the ground | Worn hinges, a post that has shifted or a heavy frame | Reset hinges and posts, brace or square the frame |
| Remote works only up close | A weak remote battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery, test the receiver and the range |
| Dead after a power cut | A drained or failed backup battery | Test and replace the battery, check the charger |
Keep children, pets and vehicles clear of a gate that is leaning, dragging or damaged.

What Lawndale's weather does to a gate
Wikipedia describes Lawndale as warm year-round with moderate winter rain and marine-layer effects, like the nearby beach cities, but gives no figures. The nearest station we found is Los Angeles International Airport, about 5.7 miles northwest; its 1991-2020 normals show mean maximum temperatures of 83.7 degrees in July, 86.0 in August and 90.7 in September, and about 12.23 inches of rain a year. We found no Lawndale-only figures.
Wikipedia's page on the Los Angeles climate says strong, dry Santa Ana winds blow mainly from late September to early May, with notable windstorms several times a year. Wind carries dust and debris onto sensors and into tracks, and a gate with a tired backup battery may not finish its cycle if power flickers.
Before the windy season, wipe the sensor lenses, clear leaves and grit from the track, check the hinges and test the backup battery.
- Wipe photo-eye lenses after dusty wind
- Clear grit from tracks and hinges
- Replace aging backup batteries before the Santa Ana season

It does not mention gate operators or their wiring, so ask the city before electrical work.

Emergency access. Fire and police need a way in. Before you install or change a locked entry, ask the local fire department about key switches and Knox boxes.
HOA review. Many associations review exterior changes such as gates. Check yours before you change a gate's design or color.

Lawndale gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Lawndale?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Lawndale (ZIP 90260) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Lawndale?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Lawndale means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Lawndale?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
The gate is probably binding, or a gear, arm or capacitor has failed. Do not keep running it, because that can burn out the motor. Call us and we free the gate and test the operator.
How much does gate repair cost in Lawndale?
It depends on the gate type and the failed part. A remote, battery or sensor costs far less than a control board, an operator or a rebuilt post. We find the fault first, quote the price and start work only after you agree.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Lawndale?
Lawndale's street ZIP code is 90260, which zip-codes.com calls the only ZIP code for the city. Some sites also list 90261 as a non-residential ZIP with no housing units, so we could not confirm it for service addresses. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Does a gate repair in Lawndale need a permit?
Lawndale's permit page lists a fence permit, with a $50 fee handled by the Planning Department, for installing, modifying or repairing gates and fences. It does not mention gate operators or their wiring, so call the city at (310) 973-3230 before bigger work.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Lawndale too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Lawndale for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
