What Maywood conditions do to a gate
Wikipedia's Maywood page says summers are warm with highs in the 80s, August is the warmest month with an average high near 89 degrees, December nights average near 47 degrees, and about 15 inches of rain falls a year, most of it in February. Warm summers age batteries, plastic housings and lubricants, and winter rain gets into keypads and control boxes.
Wikipedia's Los Angeles page adds that Santa Ana winds in autumn and winter bring warmer, drier air, and it lists a record high of 113 degrees for downtown. We found no Maywood-specific wind or outage record, but a power cut can leave an electric gate stuck unless its backup battery is healthy, and wind pushes on solid panels.
In the dry months, replace an aging backup battery; before the February rains, check that keypads and control boxes are sealed.
- Replace backup batteries before summer
- Seal keypads and control boxes before winter rain
- Check hinges and latches after strong wind

Small houses and rentals in a 1.2-square-mile city
Maywood covers about 1.2 square miles and is the third-smallest city in Los Angeles County by area, according to Wikipedia. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates put the median home year at 1953, with about 67 percent of homes built in 1959 or earlier, about 68 percent of units single-family (54 percent detached) and about 70 percent of occupied homes rented.
That is one of the oldest housing stocks in the area, so gates, posts and wiring may have been patched or replaced piece by piece over the years. We could not confirm any HOA or gated community in Maywood, and because most homes are rented, a repair often needs the landlord or property manager to approve it.
We start with the gate and its hardware and then test the operator, the sensors and the remote or keypad, so the parts that wore out are the ones we replace.
- Gates on small single-family lots built in the 1950s and earlier
- Entries at rentals and small apartment buildings
- Patched-up posts, hinges and old operators

Why gates in Maywood stop working
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The gate does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does nothing at all | No power, a tripped breaker or a dead battery | Check power, breaker and battery, then the control board |
| Motor hums, gate does not move | A binding gate, a worn gear or arm, or a failed capacitor | Free the gate, then repair or replace the failed part |
| Gate stops halfway or reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, a safety edge or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors, test the edge, reset the force |
| Gate sags or drags on the ground | Worn hinges, a post that has shifted or a heavy frame | Reset hinges and posts, brace or square the frame |
| Remote works only up close | A weak remote battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery, test the receiver and the range |
| Dead after a power cut | A drained or failed backup battery | Test and replace the battery, check the charger |
Keep children, pets and vehicles clear of a gate that is leaning, dragging or damaged.

Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review

Maywood gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Maywood?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Maywood (ZIP 90270) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Maywood?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Maywood means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Maywood?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
The gate is probably binding, or a gear, arm or capacitor has failed. Do not keep running it, because that can burn out the motor. Call us and we free the gate and test the operator.
How much does gate repair cost in Maywood?
It depends on the gate type and the failed part. A remote, battery or sensor costs far less than a control board, an operator or a rebuilt post. We find the fault first, quote the price and start work only after you agree.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Maywood?
Maywood uses ZIP code 90270. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
I rent in Maywood. Who arranges a gate repair?
About 70 percent of Maywood's occupied homes are rented, according to Census Bureau estimates. The landlord or property manager usually has to approve a gate repair, so tell them what the gate does and we can book the visit with whoever manages the property.
Is Maywood part of Huntington Park or Bell?
No. Maywood is its own city with its own City Hall on Slauson Avenue. It borders Bell and Huntington Park, according to Census boundaries, and we repair gates in all three cities.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Maywood too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Maywood for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
