What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review
My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review

Valley-floor homes from the 1970s, owned and rented
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 estimates, the median home in Lompoc was built in 1976, so half the homes are about 50 years old or older. About half of the city's homes are detached single-family houses, a few more are attached houses, and the rest are apartment buildings and a small number of mobile homes. About 49 percent of homes are owner-occupied and 51 percent are rented.
The city sits mostly in the Santa Ynez River valley, at about 105 feet above sea level. H Street is the main north-south street, Ocean Avenue and Santa Rosa Road are the other main roads, and State Route 1 runs through town. Lompoc calls itself the City of Arts and Flowers and holds its Valley Flower Festival in late June.
Doors from the 1970s have had decades of daily use, so original springs, rollers and openers are often at the end of their life. We check the whole door, not just the part that failed, and we explain the work to whoever approves it, whether that is the owner or a landlord.
- Original springs and openers on 1970s homes
- Houses and small apartment buildings
- Opener upgrades with battery backup

What your garage door is telling you in Lompoc
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The door does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| The door is heavy and will not stay up | A spring has lost tension or broken | Replace the springs as a set and rebalance the door |
| The door jumped off its track | A bent track or a broken roller | Straighten or replace the track, replace rollers, reset the door |
| The opener runs but nothing moves | A stripped gear, broken spring or a disconnected door | Test the opener, repair or replace the failed part |
| The door closes crooked | A stretched or slipped cable | Replace the cable and level the door |
| The remote works only close to the door | A weak battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery and test the receiver |
Do not run a door that is crooked or heavy.

What Lompoc's cool, foggy weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's Lompoc climate table, which cites NOAA normals for 1991-2020, shows summer highs of only about 71 to 73 degrees and about 15 inches of rain a year, nearly none from June to August. Fog is common and an ocean breeze blows, so moisture settles on steel parts and the dust that sticks to oily rollers and hinges. A little lubricant and a wipe-down go a long way.
Lompoc can get strong wind. A Santa Maria Times report described northwest winds of 32 to 46 miles an hour, with gusts to 55, toppling a palm tree onto a car on Lupine Street, and KSBY reported a 60 mph reading in the area in February 2019. A door that is out of balance or has a loose track is the first to complain in a gust. The 2025 CAL FIRE update rated parts of the city Moderate, High or Very High, with the area north of town near the Wye named in city materials.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges, check that the two sensors near the floor face each other, and press the test button on the battery backup.
- Oil rollers and hinges after foggy months
- Check track bolts after strong wind
- Test the battery backup twice a year

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Lompoc
Battery backup. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic overlay, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
Lompoc Building and Safety. The city's Building and Safety Division is at 100 Civic Center Plaza. The general line is (805) 875-8220 and the inspection line is (805) 875-8231; please confirm, because the city website was blocked when we researched it and these details come from search summaries of city pages. The city says a building permit is required to erect, alter or move a structure and that minor repairs and maintenance do not need one. We could not confirm whether a garage door or opener replacement needs a permit, so check with Lompoc Building and Safety before a replacement.
Fire zones. The city says some Lompoc areas are in the High or Very High fire hazard zones after the 2025 CAL FIRE update. We could not verify the status of any single address, so ask the city if yours is one of them.

Lompoc garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Lompoc?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Lompoc (ZIP 93436) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Lompoc?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Lompoc?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Lompoc?
Lompoc uses ZIP code 93436, which also lists Vandenberg Village as an alias. ZIP 93437 is Vandenberg Space Force Base and 93438 is for PO boxes. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does Lompoc require a permit to replace a garage door?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule. The city says minor repairs and maintenance do not need a building permit, but whether a door or opener replacement does is not clear from what we could read. Ask Lompoc Building and Safety at (805) 875-8220 (please confirm the number) before a replacement.
Is Lompoc in a high fire hazard zone?
The city says that after the 2025 CAL FIRE update some areas of Lompoc are rated Moderate, High or Very High, with the area north of town near the Wye named in city materials. We could not check any single address, so ask the city about yours.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a simple job like a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Lompoc?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
