What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Talk about the gold standard for superb professional courteous responsive customer service - these guys are always on time, their rates are very reasonable and IMO lowest in town, and their work is always quality - from spring replacements to extra FOB programming & delivery! The owner is the real deal and makes good on all promises - We love doing business with him and don't hesitate to refer this business to all. He's that good!Ryan · Google review
Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review

A 1970-era city with houses, apartments and mobile homes
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 five-year estimates, Westminster has about 29,000 housing units and the median home was built in 1970. About 54 percent are detached houses and about 8 percent are attached single-family homes. A median year of 1970 means many springs, rollers and openers have had decades of daily use, and we check the whole door, not only the part that failed.
The same estimates put owners at about 54 percent and renters at about 46 percent, so a good share of our calls come from tenants, landlords and property managers as well as owners. About one home in ten, roughly 2,950 units, is a mobile home. Mobile homes usually do not have a standard attached garage, so tell us what you have when you call.
Westminster was founded in 1870 as a Presbyterian temperance colony and incorporated on March 27, 1957, and walnuts, strawberries and celery were early farm crops. Beach Boulevard is the main north-south route, Interstate 405 crosses the city, and Bolsa Avenue, mostly between Magnolia and Brookhurst Streets, is the heart of Little Saigon. We measure the opening on older houses before we order anything, because framing from that era is not always square.

What your garage door is telling you in Westminster
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The door does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| The door is heavy and will not stay up | A spring has lost tension or broken | Replace the springs as a set and rebalance the door |
| The door jumped off its track | A bent track or a broken roller | Straighten or replace the track, replace rollers, reset the door |
| The opener runs but nothing moves | A stripped gear, broken spring or a disconnected door | Test the opener, repair or replace the failed part |
| The door closes crooked | A stretched or slipped cable | Replace the cable and level the door |
| The remote works only close to the door | A weak battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery and test the receiver |
Do not run a door that is crooked or heavy.

What Westminster weather does to a garage door
Westminster has no weather table from a named station in our sources, so these figures come from regional sources. Mean daily highs run near 79 degrees in June, 83 in July, 84 in August and 83 in September, with an annual mean daily high near 76. Rain averages about 14 inches a year, with January, February and March the wettest months and July nearly dry. Heat dries out lubricant and ages plastic parts, and winter rain settles into tracks and under bottom seals.
Wikipedia notes that a 1933 earthquake and a severe flood in 1938 delayed suburban development in Westminster. Today the city is flat and built out, so the everyday problems are wear and moisture rather than terrain. A door that has been settling for decades can pull its tracks out of true, which shows up as a door that rubs, shakes or closes crooked.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse by laying a board flat under the door. Press the test button on the battery backup at the same time.
- Oil rollers and hinges before summer
- Check the bottom seal after winter rain
- Test the safety reverse and battery backup twice a year

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Westminster
Battery backup. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic overlay, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
Westminster permits. Westminster is its own city, so the City of Westminster Building Division sets the permit rules. City Hall is at 8200 Westminster Boulevard, and the Building Division's main line is (714) 548-3254; confirm the number and hours when you call, because we saw them in search summaries and could not open the city page. The website is westminster-ca.gov. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement or a new opener needs a permit, so ask the Building Division before a replacement.
HOAs. We did not find a named homeowners association in Westminster, but if yours has one, check its style and color rules before you choose a new door.

Westminster garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Westminster?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Westminster (ZIP 92683) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Westminster?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Westminster?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Westminster?
Westminster uses street-delivery ZIP code 92683. ZIP codes 92684 and 92685 are PO box codes. Midway City next door has its own ZIP, 92655. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you serve Little Saigon in Westminster?
Yes. Little Saigon is centered on Bolsa Avenue in Westminster, mostly between Magnolia and Brookhurst Streets. Tell us your street when you call and we book the soonest visit.
Does a garage door replacement need a permit in Westminster?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule. Ask the City of Westminster Building Division at (714) 548-3254 before a replacement or a new opener, and confirm the number when you call.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a simple job like a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Westminster?
