What customers say

My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review

Newer single-family streets along the Highway 101 corridor
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in the Town of Windsor was built in 1993. About 76 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, and about 77 percent of all homes are detached houses, with another 6 percent attached. A garage door that went in with the house is now roughly thirty years old, which is about when original springs, cables and openers start to wear out. Springs are rated for a set number of open-and-close cycles, and a family that opens the door several times a day gets there sooner.
Windsor was incorporated as a town in July 1992 and sits on Highway 101 in the Russian River valley, according to Wikipedia and Sonoma County's hazard plan. The plan describes mostly flat land bordered by hills to the north, east and west, with single-family homes as the main land use, higher-density housing near downtown and along Old Redwood Highway, and larger single-family developments planned north of Arata Lane. We could not verify any homeowners association or gated community in Windsor.
Tell us the cross street and whether the garage is a single door, a pair or a shared bay, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing springs, and we add a battery backup when an older opener is replaced.

What your garage door is telling you in Windsor
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The door does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| The door is heavy and will not stay up | A spring has lost tension or broken | Replace the springs as a set and rebalance the door |
| The door jumped off its track | A bent track or a broken roller | Straighten or replace the track, replace rollers, reset the door |
| The opener runs but nothing moves | A stripped gear, broken spring or a disconnected door | Test the opener, repair or replace the failed part |
| The door closes crooked | A stretched or slipped cable | Replace the cable and level the door |
| The remote works only close to the door | A weak battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery and test the receiver |
Do not run a door that is crooked or heavy.

What Windsor conditions do to a garage door
Sonoma County's hazard plan describes Windsor as semi-arid Mediterranean, with over 90 percent of the rain falling from October to May and about 40 inches in an average year. Summer highs run in the upper 80s, with swings of up to 35 degrees between day and night. The plan is a planning document, not a weather station table, so treat the figures as general. Big daily temperature swings make door seals, springs and lubricant work harder.
The plan records the Kincade Fire of October 2019, when all of Windsor was evacuated, and says the Town was spared when the wind changed and firefighters staged in town. It also lists PG&E power shutoffs in October 2018 and October 2019, plus severe weather and flooding from February 4 to March 1, 2019. We did not verify how often Windsor loses power. When the power is out, use the manual release, and if you suspect a broken spring call us instead of lifting a heavy door by hand.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges, and press the test button on the battery backup. Know where the red release cord is before you need it.
- Know where the manual release is
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Oil rollers and hinges before summer

| South Windsor near Shiloh Road | The Town's southern edge; a World War II Army Air Forces training base here is now the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport | Doors from the 1990s onward, near their rated spring cycles |
| North Windsor near Starr Road and Arata Lane | The north and northwest side of the Town, with larger developments planned north of Arata Lane after its 2018 annexation | Newer doors where the springs are young but openers and sensors still need setting |

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Windsor
Battery backup. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic overlay, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
Town permits. Windsor is an incorporated town, so its rules come from the Town of Windsor, not Santa Rosa or Sonoma County. Town Hall is at 9291 Old Redwood Highway, and the Town's home page lists 707-838-1000 with hours of Monday to Thursday, 7 am to 6 pm. A third-party permit guide lists the Building Division at suite 400 of the same building with an inspection line of (707) 522-8346, which we could not confirm, so check both numbers at townofwindsor.ca.gov. We could not confirm whether a garage door or opener replacement needs a permit, so ask the Town of Windsor Building Division before the work.
Fire-resistant building rules. According to Sonoma County's hazard plan, Windsor's 2019 building code requires Chapter 7A fire-resistive materials and methods for all new construction, including additions. That applies to new construction, and we found no Town statement on garage door replacement or on the fire zone of a specific address, so if you are rebuilding or adding on, ask the Town.

Windsor garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Windsor?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Windsor (ZIP 95492) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Windsor?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Windsor?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Windsor?
The Town of Windsor uses a single ZIP code, 95492. We also serve nearby Healdsburg, Santa Rosa and Larkfield-Wikiup, so call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does a garage door replacement in Windsor need a permit?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule for the Town of Windsor, because we found no Town page on garage doors. Call the Town's main line at 707-838-1000 and ask for the Building Division, or check the Town's website, before ordering a new door.
What should I do with my garage door during a power shutoff in Windsor?
Use the red manual release cord to open the door by hand if you need to, and have the door looked at if it feels heavy or sits crooked, because that can mean a worn spring. A battery backup lets the opener work during an outage. Sonoma County's hazard plan lists PG&E shutoffs in 2018 and 2019, but we did not verify how often Windsor loses power.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often handle a simple job such as a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Windsor?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
