A river city where more than half the houses date from before 1970
According to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2020-2024, East Moline has about 9,376 housing units with a median year built of 1968. About 16 percent were built in the 1950s, about 17 percent in the 1960s and about 16 percent in the 1970s, which puts roughly 54 percent before 1970. A door from those decades is now 45 to 75 years old, so worn springs, frayed cables and tired openers are the usual calls.
About 61 percent of the city's homes are single-family detached houses, about 21 percent are in buildings of five units or more and about 64 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The same survey puts the median value of an owner-occupied home at about $134,600. We could not verify any homeowners' association rules, so if your door belongs to a landlord or a building owner, tell us when you call.
Tell us what the door does and how old the house is, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance the door before choosing springs, so the new set fits the door you really have.

What East Moline weather does to a garage door
The closest station table we could use is Quad City International Airport in Moline, about 5 miles south-west, which puts the January average high at 31.8 degrees and the low at 14.8, the July high at 86.1, and the year at about 38 inches of precipitation, according to Wikipedia's 1991-2020 normals. That table is a Moline reading, not an East Moline one, and it lists the airport's record low of minus 33 degrees on January 30, 2019.
We could not verify any East Moline-only flood, wind or outage figure, so we do not quote one. Wikipedia says the city sits where the Rock and Mississippi rivers meet; river damp and long freezes are hard on tracks, rollers and bottom seals, and a long outage leaves an opener dead, so know where your manual release is.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, put a light lubricant on the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse with a board on the floor. After a hard freeze, check that the bottom seal has not frozen to the slab before you press the button.
- Clear ice from the bottom seal in winter
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year
- Know where the manual release is

Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review

Opener safety. The federal standard for residential garage door operators (Consumer Product Safety Commission, 16 CFR part 1211) calls for automatic reversing and entrapment protection such as photo-eye sensors. If yours stopped working, we test the reverse and the sensors and repair or replace what failed. See opener installation.
Design rules. Planned communities and historic districts can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.
City permits. East Moline is an incorporated city with its own government. Residential permits go through Community Development at the City Hall Annex, 912 16th Avenue; the building and electrical inspector's number is 309-752-1509 and the city's main line is 309-752-1599, as shown on eastmoline.com. The city's list of jobs that need permits names garages, roofing, siding, replacement windows and electrical and mechanical work but does not mention garage doors, overhead doors or openers, so we could not confirm whether a replacement door or an opener swap needs a permit. Ask the city before the work. The page also links to a contractor registration portal; we could not confirm what it requires.
State rules. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's list of regulated professions has no garage door, overhead door or general contractor category, so we found no state garage door contractor license. Under the Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act (815 ILCS 513), home repair or remodeling work over $1,000 needs a written contract or work order; the Act leaves out maintenance, service or repairs under $500. Opener safety is covered by the federal rule at 16 CFR part 1211.

East Moline garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in East Moline?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in East Moline (ZIP 61244) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (312) 620-1952, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in East Moline?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in East Moline?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in East Moline?
East Moline's street ZIP code is 61244, according to ZIP directories. Call us if your address is near Silvis, Moline or Hampton and you are not sure we reach it.
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in East Moline?
The city's permit page lists garages, roofing, siding and replacement windows but does not mention garage doors, so we could not confirm a rule. Call the building and electrical inspector at 309-752-1509 or the city at 309-752-1599 before the work.
Do you repair garage doors after a storm in East Moline?
Yes. Strong wind can bend a track or push a door off its rollers, and a fallen limb can dent panels. We check the track, panels, springs and opener, explain what we find and quote the price before any work starts.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can usually deal with a sensor, a roller or a loose bracket. Springs and cables hold a lot of tension and need a trained technician, so do not try to adjust them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
