What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Talk about the gold standard for superb professional courteous responsive customer service - these guys are always on time, their rates are very reasonable and IMO lowest in town, and their work is always quality - from spring replacements to extra FOB programming & delivery! The owner is the real deal and makes good on all promises - We love doing business with him and don't hesitate to refer this business to all. He's that good!Ryan · Google review
Called the office to let them know my issues and asked if we could get someone out to look at my door. Was told between 11-12...drove home from work at 11:05 and Emil was waiting and ready to get to work. Not knowing anything about how to fix a garage door, Emil did a great job explaining why I was having issues. Quoted a reasonable price (well at least what I thought was reasonable) and less than 40 minute later he had fixed the problem. Great customer service from intake of the call to fixing my door! If you need a garage door repair...support local business and give them your business, you won't be disappointed.Guadalupe · Google review
My garage door and opener were pretty banged up and not working properly. Emil Garage Doors came out, did a thorough evaluation of door and all it's parts. Even though the previous home owner rigged up the garage door opener with the wrong springs and parts, Emil repaired the door and saved us money by using some of the old parts. That kind of honesty will get 5 stars all day long. Thank you Emil Garage Doors for your great service.Bradford · Google review
I woke up to a loud crash when a tree in my front yard fell over and hit my garage door. Emil Garage Doors was able to give be a really good price on a new garage door. They uninstalled the old, damaged door and realigned the tracks the garage door connects to which had been damaged as well. The new door looks great and most importantly functions well. Thank you for going above and beyond in my time of need!Stuart · Google review
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review

Houses, townhomes and condo buildings from the 1960s to the 1980s
According to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, Woodridge has about 14,000 housing units with a median year built of 1982. About 25 percent were built in the 1970s, 21 percent in the 1980s and 18 percent in the 1960s, so about two in three homes date from the 1960s to the 1980s. Wikipedia says developer Albert Kaufman founded the village in 1959 and that most homes were built after the 1950s, so many doors, springs and openers are 35 to 65 years old unless they have been replaced.
Only about 52 percent of the village's homes are single-family detached houses. About 38 percent are in buildings with five or more units, and about 32 percent of occupied homes are rented. That means many garage doors belong to an association or a property manager, so tell us who approves the work when you call. Listing sites date Woodridge Highlands to 1964 and Forest Edge to the late 1960s and early 1970s, and say Seven Bridges was built from 1990 to 2007.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.
- Original doors and openers from the 1960s and 1970s
- Condo and townhome doors approved by an association

What Woodridge weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's Woodridge page carries a climate chart that cites The Weather Channel for ZIP 60517. It gives a January average high of 32 degrees and a low of 14, a July high of 87 and a low of 63, a record high of 105 in July 2005 and a record low of minus 26 in January 1985. It gives no snowfall figure, so we give none. Cold stiffens grease and weatherstripping, loads the opener and can break a spring that has many cycles on it.
An EF-3 tornado crossed Woodridge just after 11 p.m. on June 20, 2021, according to the National Weather Service by way of Wikipedia. Its article describes damage across several Woodridge neighborhoods, including roof and exterior wall loss along Woodridge Road, and the Woodridge page says about 225 homes in the village and nearby suburbs were damaged and nobody died. That count is from an uncited paragraph. We could not verify a Woodridge-only home count.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse. After a windstorm, look for bent track sections and loose brackets before you run the opener.
- Check tracks and brackets after high wind
- Lubricate rollers and hinges twice a year
- Test the safety reverse twice a year

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Woodridge
Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Woodridge is an incorporated village with its own government. Its Community Development Department is at Village Hall, 5 Plaza Drive, phone 630-719-4750, and its website is woodridgeil.gov. The village's permit FAQ says a window or door replacement needs no permit if the new unit is the same size as the old one, and needs a permit if the size changes; it does not mention garage doors, so we could not confirm whether a garage door replacement or an opener swap needs a permit. Ask the department before the work. The village's contractor page says there is no registration fee, and that general contractors file a certificate of insurance naming the village before a permit is issued; it does not name garage door contractors, so ask what applies to you.
State rules. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation lists a roofing contractor category among its regulated professions but no garage door, overhead door or general contractor category, so we found no state license for garage door work. The Illinois Attorney General's home repair page says a contractor should give you the Home Repair Consumer Rights document on jobs valued at $1,000 or more, describes a written contract that names the contractor and lists the work, dates, total cost and payment schedule, and gives you 3 business days to cancel a contract you signed at home (15 business days if you are 65 or older).

Woodridge garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Woodridge?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Woodridge (ZIP 60517) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (312) 620-1952, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Woodridge?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Woodridge?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Woodridge?
Woodridge's ZIP code is 60517. Call us if your address is near Darien, Lisle or Bolingbrook and you are not sure we reach it.
Do you service condos and townhomes in Woodridge?
Yes. About 38 percent of Woodridge homes are in buildings with five or more units, according to Census estimates. Tell us who approves repairs, such as an association or a manager, when you call so we can plan the visit and the quote.
Do you repair garage doors after a storm in Woodridge?
Yes. Strong wind can bend tracks or push a door out of its frame, and a falling branch can dent panels. We inspect the track, panels, springs and opener, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
