A university and ranch-country town with mostly 1970s homes
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, Kingsville has about 11,300 housing units. About 62 percent are single-family detached houses, and renters make up about 56 percent of occupied homes, so many doors are looked after by landlords and property managers. The median year built is 1973, so original springs, rollers and openers are often well past their best.
The Kingsville Downtown Historic District, approved by the National Park Service in 2018, covers buildings from 1904 to 1970 around East Yoakum and East King Avenues. The city also has a local historic district where painting needs color approval, and we could not verify any garage door rules there, so ask the city first. We found no homeowner association areas.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.

What Kingsville weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's Kingsville climate table gives July and August average highs of about 95 to 97 degrees, a record low of 10 degrees and about 31 inches of rain a year in a humid subtropical climate. Humid, salt-influenced air speeds up rust on springs, cables, hinges and track fasteners, and July heat dries out seals.
Tropical weather is part of the history here. A Category 4 hurricane that came ashore at Baffin Bay in 1916 hit Kingsville directly, and Tropical Storm Hermine caused wind damage in 2010. When Hurricane Hanna landed on Padre Island in Kenedy County in July 2020, Kleberg County called a voluntary evacuation for low-lying areas and a shelter opened in Kingsville. Strong wind loads wide two-car doors, and a storm outage leaves the opener dead, so know where your manual release is.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and look for rust on the springs and cables. Test the safety reverse as well.

Great company to use for garage door work. Came out promptly, over a weekend when I could not get others to respond. Efficient work, very knowledgeable, very friendly. I would not hesitate to contact them first the next time I need service.Courtney · Google review
Incredible honest work. Emil took care of all the repairs needed in order for my garage door to work again. I know I need a new garage door but I can't afford it right now this company was nice enough to fix it instead of hounding me for more money to get a new door. Emil was so nice that he even provided me a price. I was so happy he said I could call him when I had the money and he would honor me the price. amazing company to reach out to.Jasmine · Google review

I have been using them for few years. They are professional, reliable (especially in emergencies (springs breaking)), customer service is always polite and helpful, and their prices cannot be beat!!Deborah · Google review
Doesn't get any better than this guy! I have recently purchased a condo with a broken garage door opener. It was missing some brackets. I called them, and Emil came out promptly the next morning. On time! He was able to run back to his shop and get the bracket I needed. It took him less than an hour to complete the entire project! My garage door works great now. I said a little thank you to Emil as I opened my garage door late last night and drove in my garage. I would definitely call him again if I needed anything done with my garage door. Highly recommend, plus he's just a super nice guy, which the process so much easier. Thanks Emil!Winston · Google review

Safety reverse and sensors. A home garage door opener sold in the United States has to reverse the door on contact and have photo-eye sensors or an equivalent entrapment protection device, under the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission standard (16 CFR part 1211). A door that closes on an object, or an opener with dead sensors, needs repair before further use. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic district rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
City permits. Kingsville is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Kingsville. Planning and Development Services handles permits and inspections at (361) 595-8019 and 595-8055. The city's "Do I need a permit" guide of February 2024 says almost every project inside the city limits needs a permit, but it does not list garage doors or openers either way. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement needs one, so call before the work or visit cityofkingsville.com.
Windstorm area. Kleberg County is one of the 14 first-tier coastal counties in the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association's designated catastrophe area. The Texas Department of Insurance says garage doors can be strengthened by replacing the door and track with a wind- and debris-resistant system or adding a tested impact-resistant covering, and that you should confirm a garage door repair or replacement qualifies for a windstorm certificate (WPI-8) before starting. We could not confirm whether a routine spring, cable or opener repair needs one; the department's windstorm line is 800-248-6032.
State rules. We could not confirm a Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. A Texas Department of Public Safety page says installing garage door or gate openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes.

Kingsville garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Kingsville?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Kingsville (ZIP 78363) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Kingsville?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Kingsville?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Kingsville?
Kingsville's street ZIP code is 78363, and 78364 is for PO boxes. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Does a new garage door in Kingsville have to meet a wind rule?
Kleberg County is in the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association area, and the Texas Department of Insurance says to confirm a garage door replacement is eligible for a windstorm certificate before starting. We can explain wind-rated door options; ask the state department or the city about your specific case.
Do you repair garage doors for rental properties in Kingsville?
Yes. We repair doors for landlords, property managers and tenants. Tell us the cross street and what the door does when you call.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
