What customers say

Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review

What Farmington weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's 1981-2010 normals for Farmington (station not named) give a January mean high of 38.1 degrees and low of 20.6, a July mean high of 92.5, about 22 inches of precipitation and about 49 inches of snow a year. Cold like that stiffens rubber seals and lubricant, and the opener and torsion springs work hardest on frozen mornings.
Farmington was where the National Weather Service logged a 99 mph gust in the September 8, 2020 windstorm, according to KSL; a separate Davis County report was 90 or 91 mph, and the Davis school districts closed. We found no Farmington damage report for that storm. In the December 1, 2011 Davis County windstorm, about 102 mph was recorded in neighboring Centerville and the Farmington FrontRunner station stayed closed through the weekend for repairs, according to Wikipedia.
Each fall, lubricate the rollers and hinges, wipe the tracks and test the safety reverse. After a windstorm, check the tracks and panels before you run the opener.
- Check the bottom seal before it freezes
- Know where the manual release is for outages
- Look over tracks and panels after a windstorm

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Farmington
Opener safety. Federal rules (the Consumer Product Safety Commission's standard for automatic residential garage door operators, 16 CFR part 1211) require openers made for homes to reverse the door when it meets an obstruction and to have a separate entrapment protection device, which on most openers is the pair of photo-eye sensors near the floor. If your opener ignores the sensors or does not reverse, stop using it and call us. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic district, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
City permits. Farmington is its own city, so permits come from the city's Building Department at the City Office, 160 S. Main Street, phone 801-451-2383 (farmington.utah.gov); other city pages list a Building Department line at 801-939-9214, so confirm the number when you call. The Davis County permit office serves only unincorporated areas, so Farmington addresses go through the city. The city's pages list building applications and forms but do not say when a permit is needed and do not name garage doors or openers. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement needs a permit, so ask the Building Department before the work.
State rules. Under Utah Code 58-55-305, repair or improvement work valued under $7,000 may be done without a contractor license, and on a job over $3,000 the person files a one-time affirmation with the Division of Professional Licensing that they carry public liability insurance. Electrical work on such a job must be done by an electrician or electrical contractor who holds the state electrical license. Utah rule R156-55a-301 lists garage doors in the scope of the S220 Carpentry and Flooring Contractor classification. You can check any contractor at dopl.utah.gov.

Farmington garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Farmington?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Farmington (ZIP 84025) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (801) 980-3670, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Farmington?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Farmington?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Farmington?
Farmington has one street ZIP code, 84025, according to zip-codes.com. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you repair garage doors in the Main Street Historic District?
Yes. We repair springs, cables, openers and panels on older doors. If you want to change the look of a door in the historic district, ask the city first, because we could not verify whether that needs review.
Do you repair garage doors after a windstorm in Farmington?
Yes. Strong east-bench wind can bend a track, push a light door out of its frame or leave an opener without power. We inspect the track, panels, springs and opener, explain what we find and quote the price before we start.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
