Mid-century neighborhoods around an 1847 settlement
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey (five-year estimates), Bountiful has about 15,600 housing units and a median year built of 1973. About 69 percent are single-family detached houses and about 71 percent of homes are owner-occupied. Roughly 63 percent of the housing was built before 1980 and about 37 percent in the 1950s and 1960s alone, so a lot of original doors, springs and openers are well past 40 years old.
Bountiful was settled on September 27, 1847, and the Bountiful Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, covers about 310 acres with 522 contributing buildings, roughly between 200 West, 500 South, 400 East and 400 North, according to Wikipedia. A National Register listing does not by itself set local rules, and we could not verify whether the city reviews garage doors there, so ask the city first. We also could not confirm homeowner associations or building materials.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before we choose new springs.
- Original springs, cables and openers on 1950s to 1970s homes
- Older doors near the historic district: ask the city first
- Foothill homes exposed to canyon wind

What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review

Great company to use for garage door work. Came out promptly, over a weekend when I could not get others to respond. Efficient work, very knowledgeable, very friendly. I would not hesitate to contact them first the next time I need service.Courtney · Google review
Incredible honest work. Emil took care of all the repairs needed in order for my garage door to work again. I know I need a new garage door but I can't afford it right now this company was nice enough to fix it instead of hounding me for more money to get a new door. Emil was so nice that he even provided me a price. I was so happy he said I could call him when I had the money and he would honor me the price. amazing company to reach out to.Jasmine · Google review

What Bountiful weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia gives Bountiful, from the Bountiful-Val Verda station's 1980-2010 normals, a July mean high of 89.8 degrees, a January mean low of 22.1, about 23 inches of precipitation and about 59 inches of snow a year. Cold like that stiffens rubber bottom seals and lubricant, and the weight of a door that is out of balance loads springs and cables hardest on winter mornings.
Wind has hit Davis County before. The December 1, 2011 windstorm left up to 54,000 residences without power, according to Wikipedia, and in the September 8, 2020 windstorm the National Weather Service logged a 99 mph gust in Farmington, according to KSL, with the worst damage running from Layton down to North Salt Lake. We found no Bountiful gust figure for either storm. Wind can bend a track or push a light door out of its frame.
Each fall, wipe the bottom seal, lubricate the rollers and hinges and test the safety reverse. After a windstorm, look over the tracks and panels before you run the opener, and pull the red release cord if the power is out.
- Check the bottom seal before it freezes
- Know where the manual release is for outages
- Look over tracks and panels after a windstorm

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Bountiful
Opener safety. The federal standard for residential garage door operators (Consumer Product Safety Commission, 16 CFR part 1211) calls for automatic reversing and entrapment protection such as photo-eye sensors. If yours stopped working, we test the reverse and the sensors and repair or replace what failed. See opener installation.
Design rules. Planned communities and historic districts can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.
City permits. Bountiful is its own city, so permits come from the Building Department at 795 South Main Street, phone 801-298-6125, open Monday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with permits issued until 5:30 p.m. (bountiful.gov). The department's directory page does not say which work needs a permit and does not name garage doors, exterior doors or openers. We could not confirm whether a garage door replacement needs a permit, so ask the department before the work.
State rules. Under Utah Code 58-55-305, repair or improvement work valued under $7,000 may be done without a contractor license, and on a job over $3,000 the person files a one-time affirmation with the Division of Professional Licensing that they carry public liability insurance. Electrical work on such a job must be done by an electrician or electrical contractor who holds the state electrical license. Utah rule R156-55a-301 lists garage doors in the scope of the S220 Carpentry and Flooring Contractor classification. You can check any contractor at dopl.utah.gov.

Bountiful garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Bountiful?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Bountiful (ZIP 84010) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (801) 980-3670, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Bountiful?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Bountiful?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Bountiful?
Bountiful's street ZIP code is 84010, according to zip-codes.com; 84011 is a PO-box ZIP code, and 84087 is West Bountiful's. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do you repair garage doors in the Bountiful historic district?
Yes, we repair springs, cables, rollers and openers there. The Bountiful Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places, and we could not verify whether the city reviews a new door, so ask the city before you replace the door itself.
Do you repair garage doors in Val Verda?
Yes. Val Verda is the southern part of Bountiful, next to North Salt Lake. Call with your address and we confirm the visit window.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
