What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela Β· Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn Β· Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel Β· Google review

What the San Gorgonio Pass does to a gate
Banning sits in the San Gorgonio Pass, which the National Weather Service names as among the areas hit hardest by Santa Ana winds. Patch reported an NWS advisory for the pass near Banning on June 7, 2021 with west winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts to 50, and MyNewsLA reported a high wind warning in October 2023 with peak gusts of 50 to 65 mph.
KESQ reported that Southern California Edison cut power in Cabazon and parts of Banning and Beaumont on January 21, 2025, affecting 28,836 Riverside County customers as gusts neared 75 mph. An electric gate in a shutoff runs on its backup battery or a manual release, and wind loads the hinges, posts and latches of wide or solid gates.
Before wind season, test the backup battery, check the hinges and latches and make sure you know where the manual release is.
- Test backup batteries before wind season
- Check hinges, latches and posts after strong wind
- Keep the manual release accessible
Why gates in Banning stop working
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The gate does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does nothing at all | No power, a tripped breaker or a dead battery | Check power, breaker and battery, then the control board |
| Motor hums, gate does not move | A binding gate, a worn gear or arm, or a failed capacitor | Free the gate, then repair or replace the failed part |
| Gate stops halfway or reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, a safety edge or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors, test the edge, reset the force |
| Gate sags or drags on the ground | Worn hinges, a post that has shifted or a heavy frame | Reset hinges and posts, brace or square the frame |
| Remote works only up close | A weak remote battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery, test the receiver and the range |
| Dead after a power cut | A drained or failed backup battery | Test and replace the battery, check the charger |
Keep children, pets and vehicles clear of a gate that is leaning, dragging or damaged.

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Banning
City permits. Banning's Building and Safety is at 99 E. Ramsey Street, (951) 922-3120, email BuildingandSafety@banningca.gov, with permits Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and some services by appointment only; more is on banningca.gov. The page we read has no permit list, so we could not confirm whether a gate, a gate operator or its wiring needs a permit. Call the city before a new gate or new electrical work.
Fire hazard zones. The State Fire Marshal issued recommended 2025 fire hazard severity zone maps for Banning on March 24, 2025, and the city says it is not proposing increases. Owners in Very High zones must keep 100 feet of defensible space and meet home-hardening and wildland-urban interface codes. We could not confirm where the zones fall in the city.
Emergency access. Fire and police need a way in. Before you install or change a locked entry, ask the local fire department about key switches and Knox boxes.
HOA review. Many associations review exterior changes such as gates. Check yours before you change a gate's design or color.
UL 325. This safety standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or safety edges. We test them before we leave.

Banning gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Banning?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Banning (ZIP 92220) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Banning?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Banning means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Banning?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
The gate is probably binding, or a gear, arm or capacitor has failed. Do not keep running it, because that can burn out the motor. Call us and we free the gate and test the operator.
How much does gate repair cost in Banning?
It depends on the gate type and the failed part. A remote, battery or sensor costs far less than a control board, an operator or a rebuilt post. We find the fault first, quote the price and start work only after you agree.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Banning?
Banning uses ZIP code 92220, and we found no PO-box-only ZIP for the city. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Does the wind in Banning affect gates?
Banning sits in the San Gorgonio Pass, and the National Weather Service has issued wind advisories and warnings for the pass near Banning. Strong gusts can loosen hinges and latches on wide or solid gates and blow debris into tracks. We check the hinges, the latch and the track when we repair a gate.
What if a power shutoff leaves my gate shut in Banning?
Southern California Edison has shut off power in parts of Banning as a wildfire precaution. An electric gate then depends on its backup battery or a manual release. We test the battery and the release and replace the battery if it is weak.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Banning too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Banning for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
