What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review
My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review

Historic districts beside newer tracts
Redlands is an old citrus city in San Bernardino County. According to Census Bureau 2020-2024 American Community Survey estimates, the median home was built in 1976, about 62 percent of housing units are single-family detached houses and about 57 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
Wikipedia lists mansions such as the Morey Mansion (1890) and Kimberly Crest (1897), and the city says it has eight local historic districts. Real-estate listings, which are a weaker source, describe a gated manufactured-home community near West Pioneer Avenue and the Fernwood condominium community in south Redlands as gated; we found no official list of gated communities.
A gate on a 1970s tract home, a historic-district property or a gated condo entry can all have older hinges, operators and keypads. We start with the gate itself and then test the electronics and safety devices.

Why gates in Redlands stop working
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The gate does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does nothing at all | No power, a tripped breaker or a dead battery | Check power, breaker and battery, then the control board |
| Motor hums, gate does not move | A binding gate, a worn gear or arm, or a failed capacitor | Free the gate, then repair or replace the failed part |
| Gate stops halfway or reverses | A blocked or misaligned sensor, a safety edge or a force setting | Clean and realign the sensors, test the edge, reset the force |
| Gate sags or drags on the ground | Worn hinges, a post that has shifted or a heavy frame | Reset hinges and posts, brace or square the frame |
| Remote works only up close | A weak remote battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery, test the receiver and the range |
| Dead after a power cut | A drained or failed backup battery | Test and replace the battery, check the charger |
Keep children, pets and vehicles clear of a gate that is leaning, dragging or damaged.

What the Inland Empire does to a gate
Wikipedia's Redlands climate table, which cites Western Regional Climate Center data from 1898 to 2015, lists a mean daily high near 94.5 degrees in July, a record of 118 degrees and roughly 13.5 inches of rain a year, nearly all in winter. Long dry heat ages batteries, plastic parts and lubricants.
The Line Fire began in nearby Highland on September 5, 2024. Community Forward Redlands reported an air quality alert and that Redlands Unified closed all schools on September 9, 2024. Smoke and ash can coat sensor lenses and settle in tracks.
Twice a year, wipe the sensor lenses, clear the track, check the hinges and test the backup battery.
- Replace backup batteries before summer
- Wipe smoke and dust from sensors
- Lubricate hinges and rollers after the dry season

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Redlands
City permits. Redlands Building and Safety is in the One Stop Permit Center at 35 Cajon Street, Suite 15A, phone (909) 798-7536, with details on redlands.gov. The page lists permits for block walls and fencing but does not mention gates or gate operators, so we could not confirm whether a gate or its wiring needs a permit. Call the city before a new gate or new electrical work.
Historic districts and fire. For a property in one of the eight local historic districts, call Redlands Planning at (909) 798-7551 option 3 before you change a gate. Redlands Fire Department serves the city, and the city says southern and eastern Redlands, including San Timoteo Canyon, Live Oak Canyon and the Crafton Hills area, remain in the Very High fire category after the 2025 map update.
Emergency access. Fire and police need a way in. Before you install or change a locked entry, ask the local fire department about key switches and Knox boxes.
HOA review. Many associations review exterior changes such as gates. Check yours before you change a gate's design or color.
UL 325. This safety standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or safety edges. We test them before we leave.

Redlands gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Redlands?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Redlands (ZIP codes 92373 and 92374) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Redlands?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Redlands means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Redlands?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
The gate is probably binding, or a gear, arm or capacitor has failed. Do not keep running it, because that can burn out the motor. Call us and we free the gate and test the operator.
How much does gate repair cost in Redlands?
It depends on the gate type and the failed part. A remote, battery or sensor costs far less than a control board, an operator or a rebuilt post. We find the fault first, quote the price and start work only after you agree.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Redlands?
Redlands homes use ZIP codes 92373 and 92374. ZIP 92375 is for PO boxes. ZIP 92373 also carries the Loma Linda alias, so some 92373 addresses are in a different city. Call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Do historic districts affect gate repair in Redlands?
The city has eight local historic districts, and a Certificate of Appropriateness is generally needed to alter the exterior of a landmark or a property in a district. We could not confirm whether repairing or replacing a gate falls under that rule, so ask Redlands Planning before you change a gate in a historic district.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Redlands too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Redlands for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
