Older homes, many rentals and shared entries
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, the median home in Inglewood was built in 1961, about 74 percent of its homes were built before 1980 and about 38.5 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. About 38 percent of units are single-family detached houses; the rest are mostly attached homes and apartment buildings, including about 15 percent in buildings of 20 or more units.
Wikipedia says Inglewood Knolls, in the southeast between Crenshaw Boulevard, 108th Street, Spinning Avenue and Imperial Highway, is a tract-home subdivision built in 1953 and 1954. Gates on houses that age can still run on original hinges, posts and early operators. A real-estate listing describes Hollypark Knolls Apartments as a guard-gated community, but we found no official list of gated communities in Inglewood, so ask your property manager or association what you may change.
On single-family driveways we repair swing gates, sliding gates and their operators. On shared entries at apartment buildings and condos we test the keypad, intercom, receiver and safety sensors, because many residents depend on one gate.

My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review

What Inglewood's conditions do to a gate
Wikipedia's climate table for Inglewood lists average daily highs of 75.2 degrees in July, 76.3 in August and 76.0 in September, about 12.82 inches of rain a year and a record high of 110 degrees. Summers are milder than in the inland valleys, but sun still fades plastic covers, dries out lubricants and wears down backup batteries over the years.
Power matters for an electric gate. ABC7 reported that a Santa Ana wind event in January 2025 caused widespread outages across Los Angeles County; we found no Inglewood-only outage figures. When power drops, a gate with a weak backup battery can stay shut or stop partway and leave a driveway blocked.
Twice a year, wipe the sensor lenses, check that the gate moves freely when the operator is released and test the backup battery. Wikipedia says the Newport-Inglewood fault runs through the area, so after strong shaking look at the posts and track to see whether the gate still runs straight.
- Test the backup battery before fire-weather season
- Wipe photo-eye lenses and clear the track
- Check posts and track alignment after strong shaking
Why gates in Inglewood stop working
These are the faults we hear about most. The real cause is confirmed on site.
| Symptom | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate stuck open or stuck closed | A failed operator, a locked manual release or a power fault | Use the manual release as the maker directs, then diagnose the operator |
| Gate reverses without touching anything | Dirty photo eyes, a bent bracket or a force setting that is too low | Clean and realign the photo eyes and reset the force |
| Gate swings or slides unevenly | A leaf out of level, worn hinges or a loose track | Level the leaf, replace hinges, tighten the track |
| Clicking sound but no movement | A weak battery or a failed starting capacitor | Test the battery and the capacitor and replace the weak one |
| Solar gate stops after a few cycles | A weak panel, an old battery or shade on the panel | Test the panel and the battery, clean or move the panel |
| Remote or keypad gives no response | Dead batteries, a lost code or a receiver fault | Replace batteries, reprogram the code, test the receiver |
Do not run an operator against a gate that is jammed or dragging.

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Inglewood
City permits. Inglewood City Hall is at One Manchester Boulevard, main number (310) 412-5111, with more at cityofinglewood.org. A 211LA directory lists a Building and Safety intake line at (310) 412-5294, and a third-party permit guide lists an online portal called Accela Citizen Access; we could not confirm either on a city page. We also could not confirm a gate-specific rule for gates, gate operators or their wiring, so call the city before a new gate or new electrical work.
Fire department access. A locked gate can slow emergency crews. Ask the local fire department what it requires, for example a key switch or Knox box, before you install or change an entry.
Design rules. Planned communities and HOAs can limit gate style, height and color. Ask first, and we can give you a written scope for their review.
Entrapment protection. The UL 325 standard covers automatic gate operators and calls for devices such as photo eyes or contact edges. We test these devices every time we repair an operator.

Inglewood gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Inglewood?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Inglewood (ZIP codes 90301, 90302, 90303, 90304 and 90305) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Inglewood?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Inglewood means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Inglewood?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
Hum without movement points to a binding gate or a failed capacitor, gear or arm. Keep the operator off, and we free the gate and test the parts.
How much does gate repair cost in Inglewood?
A sensor, remote or hinge costs far less than an operator or a rebuilt post. We quote after we see the problem and before we start, so you know the price first.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Inglewood?
The street ZIP codes for Inglewood are 90301 through 90305, according to zip-codes.com. ZIP codes can cross city lines, so call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Do you repair shared gates at Inglewood apartment buildings?
We test the keypad, intercom, receiver, operator and safety sensors on shared entries. About 61 percent of Inglewood's occupied homes are rented, according to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, so many gates belong to a landlord or an association. Check who authorizes the work before we visit.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Inglewood too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Inglewood for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
