Areas are described by their landmarks, from local sources. Call if yours is not listed.
| Part of Inglewood | What is there | What we often see on garage doors |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown Inglewood | The Downtown Inglewood station and Inglewood High School | Older houses and small apartment buildings |
| Inglewood Knolls, southeast | A tract-home subdivision built in 1953 and 1954, between Crenshaw Boulevard and Imperial Highway | Mid-century tract houses with decades-old parts |
| Morningside Park and Hollypark Knolls | Two of the named neighborhoods; one listing calls Hollypark Knolls Apartments guard-gated | Apartment and bungalow garages, where we ask for gate details first |
| Centinela Heights, west | The Centinela Adobe, built in 1834, and the west side near the Los Angeles line | Older single-family houses |

Mid-century houses and apartment buildings near the stadiums
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in Inglewood was built in 1961, about 74 percent of homes went up before 1980 and about 48 percent before 1960. About 38 percent are detached houses, and about 61 percent of households rent. Doors on homes this age often still carry the original springs and openers, and we check the whole door, not only the part that failed.
Inglewood Knolls, in the southeast, is a tract-home subdivision built in 1953 and 1954, according to Wikipedia. About 17 percent of the city's homes are in buildings of two to four units and about 23 percent in buildings of five to 19 units, so apartment and fourplex garage doors are part of the work here as much as houses.
SoFi Stadium opened in 2020 on the former Hollywood Park racetrack site, the Intuit Dome opened in August 2024, and the Kia Forum has been open since 1967. We serve the homes and buildings around them, and we book visits by neighborhood so the day fits your street.
- Original springs and openers on 1950s tract homes
- Apartment and fourplex garage doors
- Battery backup upgrades on older openers

What Inglewood conditions do to a garage door
Wikipedia's climate table for Inglewood shows July to September average highs between 75 and 76 degrees, about 13 inches of rain a year and a record high of 110 degrees in September. Those are cooler coastal summers than the valleys get, so heat is rarely what ages a door here; daily use and years are. The winter rain that does fall settles into the lower track and bottom seal.
The 1920 Inglewood earthquake, about magnitude 4.9, damaged the town and led to the identification of the Newport-Inglewood fault, which runs through the area. The 1933 Long Beach earthquake damaged the fine arts building at Inglewood High School. Shaking can knock a door off its track or loosen the brackets, so look over the door after any quake that you feel.
After a shake, open and close the door by hand with the opener disconnected and watch for rubbing or a lopsided lift. If the door sticks, do not force it; call us.
- Check the door by hand after a noticeable quake
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Clean the bottom seal and lower track after rain

I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review

Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
Inglewood permits. The City of Inglewood's main line is (310) 412-5111, at City Hall, One Manchester Boulevard. We could not read a Building and Safety page on the city's own site, and a third-party directory lists an intake line at (310) 412-5294. We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule, so confirm the number and ask the Building and Safety Division before you replace a door.

Inglewood garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Inglewood?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Inglewood (ZIP 90301 to 90305) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Inglewood?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Inglewood?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Inglewood?
Inglewood homes use ZIP codes 90301 to 90305, and several other 903xx ZIP codes are PO boxes. ZIP codes cross city lines, so call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Inglewood?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule from the city. Ask the Inglewood Building and Safety Division before a replacement; the city's main line is (310) 412-5111, and the division's own number should be confirmed with them.
Can an earthquake damage a garage door?
Yes. Shaking can knock a door off its track, bend a track or loosen the brackets and springs. After a quake you can feel, open and close the door by hand and call us if it sticks, scrapes or hangs crooked.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a simple job like a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Inglewood?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
