What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review
My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review

Mid-century houses, townhomes and mobile homes in the Freeway City
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in Gardena was built in 1964, about 72 percent of homes went up before 1980 and about 44 percent before 1960. About 44 percent are detached houses, about 9 percent are attached townhomes or condos, and mobile homes make up about 6 percent. Roughly half of homes are owner-occupied, so you may be the owner or a tenant calling for the property.
Wikipedia says Gardena grew from rural Japanese-American farming communities, was known as Berryland for its berry farms, and began as a town in 1887 when the Amestoy Ranch was subdivided. It was incorporated in 1930 and is nicknamed the Freeway City. Hermosillo, Moneta and Strawberry Park are three of its named neighborhoods.
Many doors here are decades old, and townhomes often have narrow single-car openings. We check the whole door, not only the part that failed, because a worn roller or cable often sits next to it.

What your garage door is telling you in Gardena
A starting point. We confirm the cause on site.
| The door does this | Common cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| The door is heavy and will not stay up | A spring has lost tension or broken | Replace the springs as a set and rebalance the door |
| The door jumped off its track | A bent track or a broken roller | Straighten or replace the track, replace rollers, reset the door |
| The opener runs but nothing moves | A stripped gear, broken spring or a disconnected door | Test the opener, repair or replace the failed part |
| The door closes crooked | A stretched or slipped cable | Replace the cable and level the door |
| The remote works only close to the door | A weak battery, receiver or antenna | Replace the battery and test the receiver |
Do not run a door that is crooked or heavy.

What Gardena weather does to a garage door
Gardena has no climate table on Wikipedia. Climate-Zone.com, which uses NOAA 1991-2020 normals from the Hawthorne Municipal Airport station about four kilometers from the city center, gives an August average high near 79 degrees and about 12 inches of rain a year, with February the wettest month. Summers are mild, so age and daily use wear a door more than heat does.
Gardena is flat and urban. Its area drains toward the former Dominguez Slough, and the Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve in the southeast is a remnant of it. Winter rain collects in the lower track and bottom seal. The January 2025 Santa Ana wind event caused widespread outages across Los Angeles County; we found no Gardena figure.
After a rainy spell, wipe the lowest few inches of track and the bottom seal, then oil the rollers and hinges. Test the safety reverse by laying a board flat under the door.
- Wipe the bottom seal and lower track after rain
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Oil rollers and hinges once a season

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Gardena
Battery backup. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one. See opener installation.
HOAs and style rules. If you live in a planned community or a historic overlay, check style and color rules before you choose a new door. See new garage doors for styles.
Gardena permits. The Building and Safety Division takes appointment requests at (310) 217-9672 or building@cityofgardena.org (see cityofgardena.org). The city's over-the-counter permit list on that page includes reroof, service panel, sewer replacement, water heater, forced air unit, new HVAC, block wall and windows; it does not include garage doors. An older, undated city notice mentions same-size door change-outs, but it does not say whether that covers garage doors. We could not confirm a rule for replacement, so ask the division before one.

Gardena garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Gardena?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Gardena (ZIP 90247, 90248 and 90249) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Gardena?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Gardena?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Gardena?
Gardena uses ZIP codes 90247, 90248 and 90249. Those ZIP codes also cover areas outside the city, so call us and give your street if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Gardena?
The city's over-the-counter permit list does not include garage doors. We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule, so ask the Gardena Building and Safety Division at (310) 217-9672 before a replacement.
Do you repair garage doors on townhomes and condos in Gardena?
Yes. Tell us who manages the building when you call, since the owner or manager may need to approve the work, and describe what the door does. We book the soonest visit.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a simple job like a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Gardena?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
