Mid-century houses, older neighborhoods and a large renter share
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 five-year estimates, the median home in Pomona was built in 1967. About 59 percent of the 44,373 housing units are detached single-family houses and roughly a quarter are in buildings of five or more units. Only about 54 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, so about 46 percent are rented. Whether you own, rent or manage the building, tell us what the door does and we book the visit.
Pomona was incorporated in 1888 and adopted a charter in 1911, and it is about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Fairplex hosts the LA County Fair, the Pomona Mall opened in 1962 as a downtown pedestrian mall, the Pomona Fox Theater dates from 1931, and the Ygnacio Palomares Adobe, from 1855, is the oldest building in the city.
The city has older single-family neighborhoods, mid-century tract homes and newer planned communities such as Phillips Ranch, which is an alias on ZIP 91766. An older house, a tract home and a newer planned-community house do not take the same parts, so we weigh and balance each door before we quote.

What Pomona weather does to a garage door
Pomona has its own NOAA station, Pomona/Fairplex. Its 1991-2020 normals show mean daily highs of 90 degrees in July and 92 in August, and about 14.5 inches of rain a year, with February the wettest month at 4.15 inches and none in July. Long dry heat wears out lubricant and plastic parts, and winter rain settles in the lower tracks and seals.
Most of Pomona is valley floor. The State Fire Marshal's 2025 recommended map lists only 24 acres of the city as Very High fire hazard, against 1,682 acres High and 451 Moderate, and we could not confirm where those 24 acres are. ABC7 reported that the Santa Ana winds of January 2022 dropped a tree on a Pomona family's home, so wind is still worth planning for. A manual release and a battery backup that works matter when the power fails.
Twice a year, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges, and lay a board flat under the door to test the safety reverse. Press the test button on the battery backup at the same time.
- Clean tracks and sensors after wind
- Test the battery backup twice a year
- Check the bottom seal after heavy rain

They were able to come within a few hours of my call. Another company could only give me a 4 hour window of arrival time the next day, but these guys was able to give me a 2 hour window the same day. One the guys called before arriving. He was friendly and competent in explaining the problem and our options. I was so grateful he had replacement springs and was able to fix our garage door in less than an hour.David · Google review
Not paying attention I closed the garage door on a pipe laying in the track. Needless to say it did some damage even though the automatic reverse opened the door back up. Emailed what happened on Sunday evening. Appointment with quote provided in just a few minutes and appointment confirmed. Once again they arrived on time. Completed repairs quickly and for less then the quote. Cleaned up like they were never there. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for my garage door repairs.Carroll · Google review
Technician showed up on time, assessed our issue & presented replacement options. He proceeded to install new equipment during the same visit and everything was finished in less than two hours. We were impressed with the performance of our tech. It’s easy for us to recommend this company.Kathleen · Google review
The replacement of my broken spring was done quickly and professionaly. I was also provided an explanation on why the tension was set as it was. I was called in advance to be informed of the arrival time. Great job as it has been in the pastFrancine · Google review
My garage door spring broke the other evening and I was unable to open my door. I contacted them first thing the next day. They were able to give me an appointment for later in that day. The service technician called prior to arrival as promised & arrived shortly afterwards. He recommended some additional service to the door in addition to the springs which I accepted. The door was repaired in less than 2 hours & now works better than ever. Thank youBrandi · Google review
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Pomona
Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
Permits. Pomona Building and Safety is at City Hall, 505 S. Garey Ave., phone (909) 620-2371 (inspection requests (909) 620-2422, confirm), email Building@pomonaca.gov. The city's website blocked our research tool, so these details come from search summaries of city pages, and we could not confirm a rule for garage door or opener replacement. Call before the work.
Historic districts. Pomona has several historic districts, including the residential Lincoln Park, Wilton Heights and Hacienda Park. A search summary of the city's Preservation Applications page says exterior changes need a Certificate of Appropriateness before permits in a historic district, and a third-party code mirror says the same for designated landmarks and districts without mentioning garage doors. Whether a garage door swap needs one is not confirmed, so ask the city's Planning Division before changing a door on a home in a district.

Pomona garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Pomona?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Pomona (ZIP 91766, 91767 and 91768) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Pomona?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Pomona?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Pomona?
Pomona's street-delivery ZIP codes are 91766, 91767 and 91768, and 91769 is a PO box ZIP. Mail addressed to Pomona can also reach 91765, but that ZIP belongs to Diamond Bar. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
Do I need approval to replace a garage door in a Pomona historic district?
We could not confirm it. The city's preservation pages, as shown in search summaries, say exterior changes in a historic district need a Certificate of Appropriateness before permits, but whether a garage door swap counts is not confirmed. Ask the city's Planning Division before the work.
Is Pomona in a high fire hazard zone?
Most of Pomona is valley floor. The State Fire Marshal's 2025 recommended map lists only 24 acres as Very High, and we could not confirm where they are. In windy weather keep the tracks and sensors clean and keep the opener's battery backup working.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often deal with a dirty sensor or a worn roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and can injure someone, so they need a trained technician. Call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Pomona?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
