Single-story houses on rural lots, built mostly in the 1970s and 1980s
According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates, the median home in the Town of Yucca Valley was built in 1978, older than in the Coachella Valley cities to the south. About 63 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Of 10,204 homes, about 80 percent are detached houses and about 8 percent are mobile or manufactured homes. A garage door from 1978 has often had its springs and opener replaced once already, and the next set is due.
Yucca Valley was incorporated as a Town in 1991, and Wikipedia says Joshua Tree National Park lies along its southern edge. State Route 62, the Twentynine Palms Highway, is the main east-west road. Landmarks include Desert Christ Park, Old Town Yucca Valley and the Hi-Desert Nature Museum. We found no source naming a gated community or homeowners association in the Town, so we make no claim about either.
The Town covers almost 40 square miles at about 3,250 feet, so drives between its streets can be long. Tell us the cross street and whether the door is a single, a pair or a carport, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing springs.

What Yucca Valley weather does to a garage door
At about 3,250 feet, Yucca Valley is colder than the Coachella Valley. A climate-charts.com table, a weaker source built on NOAA 1991-2020 normals for a station near the Town, puts the average July high at 96.7 degrees and the average January low at 35.6, with annual precipitation of 6.25 inches. Daily data at that station from 2011 to May 2022, so not an all-time record, shows a high of 111 degrees on July 11, 2021 and a low of 16 on January 13, 2013. Wikipedia says snow falls in most years when the snow level drops below about 4,000 feet.
Wind alerts for the Morongo Basin come from the National Weather Service in Las Vegas. According to news and weather-site summaries, a wind advisory on January 7, 2026 called for gusts to 55 mph, advisories in mid-April 2026 for gusts to 50 mph, and a 2019 high wind warning for gusts of 50 to 60 mph. We did not verify seasonal wind averages. Wikipedia also records three large earthquakes in 1992, including the magnitude 7.3 Landers quake, and the magnitude 7.1 Hector Mine quake in 1999 about 30 miles north. As general advice, shaking can rack a door track out of line. Freezing nights and hot afternoons also stiffen lubricant and weatherstripping.
Before winter, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges, and check that the bottom seal is not stuck to the floor. Test the safety reverse and the battery backup twice a year.
- Free a frozen bottom seal gently, never force the door
- Check track bolts and brackets before wind season
- Test the safety reverse twice a year
What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review

Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
Town permits. Yucca Valley is an incorporated Town with its own government, so its rules come from the Town of Yucca Valley, not Los Angeles or San Bernardino County. The Town's Building and Safety Division is at 58928 Business Center Drive, and its page says permits are by appointment. Phone numbers for the division differ between Town documents, so find the current number on the Town website at yucca-valley.org. We could not confirm whether a garage door or opener replacement needs a permit, so ask the division before the work.
Fire and other overlays. The Town's code has a fire safety overlay that requires development to meet San Bernardino County Fire Department standards, according to a copy of the code on a weaker source. We could not verify a fire hazard severity class for the Town, or any hillside or historic rule that affects garage doors, so ask the Town if your lot is near open desert.

Yucca Valley garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Yucca Valley?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Yucca Valley (ZIP 92284) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Yucca Valley?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Yucca Valley?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP code do you serve in Yucca Valley?
The Town of Yucca Valley uses ZIP code 92284, according to zip-codes.com. ZIP code 92286 is for PO boxes only. We also serve nearby Joshua Tree and Morongo Valley, so call us with your street and we confirm we reach it.
Does a garage door replacement in the Town of Yucca Valley need a permit?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific permit rule for the Town. Ask the Building and Safety Division, which works by appointment, and get the current phone number from the Town website.
Can cold weather stop a garage door in Yucca Valley?
It can make one stiff. Winter lows near 35 degrees are common here, according to a table built on NOAA normals, and cold stiffens lubricant and weatherstripping. If the bottom seal has frozen to the floor, free it gently. If the door jerks, strains or the opener struggles, call us, because forcing it can break a spring or cable.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often handle a simple job such as a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Yucca Valley?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
