What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review
It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review
We interviewed several popular companies and we found that their quality, price, and level of professionalism is unmatched!Cory · Google review
Great tech. Responsive and really cared for our garage door. It’s very rare these days that someone care that much ! Thank you 😊Angela · Google review

A big South Plains city with homes from the 1920s to today
Lubbock had 257,141 residents in the 2020 census and 111,247 housing units, 9.6 percent of them vacant, according to Wikipedia. Census QuickFacts figures for 2019 to 2023 give an owner-occupied rate of 50.8 percent, and Wikipedia lists a median owner-occupied value of $152,800. Third-party sites put the median year built around 1983, which is an approximate figure.
Older areas include South Overton, a National Register district next to Texas Tech listed in 1993, and Tech Terrace, which a third-party source says was platted in 1925 as the city's first designated suburb. We could not verify whether changing a door in either needs review, so ask the city and any association first.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.

What Lubbock weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia gives Lubbock an average July high of 93.4 degrees and a January high of 55.0, with about 18 inches of precipitation and 7 inches of snow in a year. Records run from 114 degrees in 1994 to minus 17 in 1933. The average wind speed is 12.4 mph, which Wikipedia ranks 10th among U.S. cities. Wind, heat and cold all show up in springs, cables and seals.
Lubbock is on the far southwestern edge of Tornado Alley, and spring brings the highest risk of tornadoes and very large hail. A May 2018 storm damaged many roofs and vehicles, and large hail hit again in May 2020, according to news and insurer reports. In February 2021, Lubbock got 3 to 5 inches of snow, highs in the single digits and wind chills near minus 14. Local reports say controlled power outages then briefly affected hundreds of homes and businesses, mostly in west Lubbock.
Know where your manual release is, because an outage leaves the opener dead. Twice a year, wipe the tracks, lubricate the rollers and hinges, and test the safety reverse.

- Check panels after hail

Opener safety, permits and design rules in Lubbock
Opener safety. The federal standard for residential garage door operators (Consumer Product Safety Commission, 16 CFR part 1211) calls for automatic reversing and entrapment protection such as photo-eye sensors. If yours stopped working, we test the reverse and the sensors and repair or replace what failed. See opener installation.
Design rules. Planned communities and historic districts can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.
City permits. Lubbock is its own city, so its rules come from the City of Lubbock. The city's Building Safety office is at 806-775-2087, Monday to Friday 8 to 5; ask for a Residential Plans Examiner. The city's own site blocked our research tool, so these details come from search-result summaries of its pages, and you should confirm them. The residential permitting page says plan review is required and the contractor must be registered with Building Safety. We found no city page on garage door replacement or opener swaps, so we could not confirm whether either needs a permit. Call Building Safety before the work or visit mylubbock.us.
Texas rules. We found no Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. A Texas Department of Public Safety page dated 2020 says installing garage door or gate openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes.

Lubbock garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Lubbock?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Lubbock (ZIP 79401) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Lubbock?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Lubbock?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Lubbock?
Lubbock's standard street ZIP codes are 79401, 79402, 79403, 79404, 79406, 79407, 79409, 79410, 79411, 79412, 79413, 79414, 79415, 79416, 79423 and 79424. Call us if you are not sure we reach your address.
What should I do after a hailstorm in Lubbock?
Look at the panels for dents, the tracks for bends and the weatherstripping for tears before you run the opener. If the door rubs, shakes or sticks, stop using the opener and call us.
My garage door will not open during a power outage. What do I do?
Pull the red cord on the opener trolley to disconnect the door, then lift it by hand with a helper, because a door with a broken spring is very heavy. A belt-drive opener with battery backup keeps working through short outages; ask us about it.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.
How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?
Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
