Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review

Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review

"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
★★★★★
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review

It went very well, with the job being completed in three days. We waited few months for the supply chain to kick in ( Covid related delays ) and finally deliver the products. It was so worth the wait. Great installers, Emil and his team are professional and friendly, too, and patient in answering questions.Rachel · Google review

New Braunfels homes

An 1845 town core and a fast-growing ring of newer subdivisions

According to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, New Braunfels has about 44,500 housing units. About 68 percent are single-family detached houses, about 65 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied and the median year built is 2006, so many original doors and openers are 15 to 20 years old. Wikipedia describes the city as the third-fastest-growing in the United States from 2010 to 2020.

The oldest part of town dates to 1845 and sits around downtown and Landa Park. Gruene, inside the city, is a National Register historic district known for Gruene Hall, and we could not verify whether changing a garage door there needs review. Real-estate guides name Vintage Oaks, Veramendi and Mayfair as planned communities; we could not verify which are inside the city limits or what their rules say, so ask your association before you change a door.

Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a double or a pair, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing new springs.

Floods, hail and Texas heat

What New Braunfels weather does to a garage door

Wikipedia's climate table gives New Braunfels an average July and August high of 95 degrees, a January average low of 37 and about 36 inches of precipitation a year. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for San Antonio International Airport, about 25 miles southwest, count about 122 days a year at or above 90 degrees. That heat wears springs, cables, rollers and opener parts.

The Comal River winds about 3 miles through the city and joins the Guadalupe River. After heavy overnight rain in late October 2015 the mayor and the Comal County judge signed disaster declarations, and the Herald-Zeitung reported about 10 high-water rescues. The National Weather Service also reported flash flooding in New Braunfels in May 2016. KSAT listed the city among the places hit hardest by hail on March 1 and 2, 2023, with inch-size hail at Vintage Oaks. In February 2021 New Braunfels Utilities was ordered to run rotating outages, so know where your manual release is.

If water ever reached your garage, keep the opener unplugged until a technician has checked the motor, the sensors and the bottom seal. After hail, look for dented panels and cracked window inserts before you run the door.

Rules to know

Opener safety, permits and design rules in New Braunfels

Opener safety. The federal standard for residential garage door operators (Consumer Product Safety Commission, 16 CFR part 1211) calls for automatic reversing and entrapment protection such as photo-eye sensors. If yours stopped working, we test the reverse and the sensors and repair or replace what failed. See opener installation.

Design rules. Planned communities and historic districts can limit door style and color. Ask before you choose a new door: new garage doors.

City permits. New Braunfels is its own city. The Building Safety Division is at 550 Landa Street, phone 830-221-4041 option 1, email development@newbraunfels.gov, and permits go through the city's online portal. The city says a permit is needed to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building and to install, alter or replace electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing systems. Its list of work that needs no permit, and its page, do not mention garage doors or openers, so we could not confirm whether a garage door replacement needs one. Call the division or visit newbraunfels.gov before the work. The page also mentions floodplain management rules for improvements, which we did not read, so ask if your home is in a flood zone.

Texas rules. We found no Texas statewide license for garage door contractors. A Texas Department of Public Safety page dated 2020 says installing garage door or gate openers needs no DPS license unless the opener is connected to an alarm system or can log who comes and goes.

FAQ

New Braunfels garage door repair: questions we hear

Is there garage door repair near me in New Braunfels?

Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in New Braunfels (ZIP 78130) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (214) 382-3772, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.

What is the average price to repair a garage door in New Braunfels?

Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.

What is the most common garage door repair in New Braunfels?

Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.

How much is a service call for a garage door?

Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?

A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.

Which ZIP codes do you serve in New Braunfels?

New Braunfels uses 78130, 78132 and 78133. The 78132 and 78133 ZIP codes also cover large areas outside the city limits, so tell us your address when you call and we confirm we reach it.

Do you repair garage doors after a flood in New Braunfels?

Yes. We check the bottom seal, the sensors, the opener and the springs, explain what we find and quote the price before we start. If water reached the opener or its wiring, keep the power off until it has been checked.

Does hail damage a garage door?

It can. Hail dents steel panels and can crack the glass in window inserts. We inspect the panels, track and opener and tell you what needs repair or replacement.

Can a handyman fix a garage door?

A handyman can handle a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so we do not recommend fixing them yourself.

How do I test my garage door's safety reverse and sensors?

Close the door with the opener, then lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path. The door should touch it and reverse. For the sensors, start the door closing and pass a broom handle through the beam near the floor. The door should stop and go back up. If either test fails, stop using the automatic close and call us for a repair.
