2What changes the price
- Door weight and size. A heavy, wood or oversized door needs stronger springs and more care.
- Parts that are worn together. Cables, drums, rollers and brackets age at the same rate, so one repair often turns up another.
- How much is damaged. A door that left the track may only need rollers, or it may have bent tracks or a damaged panel.
- The opener. Some jobs are the door, and some are the opener or its sensors. A technician sorts out which.
- Timing and access. Evening, weekend and emergency visits can carry a different charge. Ask what it is before you book.
3Why springs are usually priced as a pair
DASMA advises that if a door has two springs, both should be replaced even if only one is broken, because that prevents damage from the second spring breaking and keeps the door working efficiently. Our one-spring price is $180 to $300, but we usually replace both. More in spring replacement cost.
4What a good quote includes
- What failed, in plain words, and what else you saw
- Each part and its size or rating, such as spring length and cycle rating
- Labor and parts shown clearly, with the total before work starts
- Whether the safety reverse and sensors are tested before the technician leaves
- What happens if the technician finds a second problem while on the job
Compare quotes line by line, not by the bottom number. A price far below the others often leaves out parts, testing or the second spring.
5Repair now or replace the door
A single failed part is usually a repair. Several worn parts, panel damage that cannot be fixed or an old door that no longer seals may point to a new door. See repair or replace a garage door and our new garage door ranges. If you are also weighing a new opener, see opener installation cost.

6Do not try the dangerous repairs yourself
Springs and the cables attached to the bottom brackets are under high tension. DASMA says only a trained technician should replace those cables and adjust or loosen the brackets. If the door is heavy, crooked or off track, stop using it and call.
