Most garage door repairs run from $89 for a safety inspection to $900 for heavy-duty springs or a new belt-drive opener. Springs, cables, an off-track door, rollers and sensors each have a range in the table below. The final price is confirmed after we see the door, because weight and damage change it.
Quick answers
How much does it cost to repair a garage door?
Our ranges run from $89 for a safety inspection to $900 for heavy-duty springs or a belt-drive opener. Springs, cables, off-track repair and rollers each have their own range in the table above.
How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?
It depends on the part. A torsion spring pair is $250 to $450, a cable pair is $175 to $350 and an off-track repair is $175 to $450. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What should garage door repair cost?
It should match the parts and labor the quote lists. Ask for each part by name and the total in writing, and compare more than one written bid.
Why do two quotes for the same repair differ?
Door weight, spring size, parts and what the quote includes all change it. A lower quote may leave out a part or the second spring.

What each repair costs
These are our price ranges for common work. They are our ranges, not a Washington average, and they do not claim the state costs more or less than anywhere else.
| Repair | Price range | What changes it |
|---|---|---|
| 12-point safety inspection | $89 | Springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener checked |
| Torsion spring pair, standard two-car door | $250 to $450 | Door weight and size |
| One torsion spring | $180 to $300 | We usually replace both, because the second spring is the same age |
| Heavy-duty torsion springs for heavy, wood or oversized doors | $350 to $900 | Door weight, spring wire size and cycle rating |
| Extension springs, pair | $150 to $300 | Spring length and safety cables |
| Lift cable replacement, pair | $175 to $350 | Door weight and cable length |
| Off-track door repair | $175 to $450 | Bent tracks, damaged panels or rollers |
| Rollers (set), sensors or tune-up | $150 to $350 | Number of rollers, sensor type and door size |
| Belt-drive opener with battery backup, installed | $550 to $900 | Horsepower, smart features, door size |
| Opener installation labor only | $150 to $450 | Opener type, and wall-mount units take longer |
Final price is confirmed after we see the door.

What moves the price
Weight comes first. A heavy wood or insulated door needs stronger springs than a light single-layer steel door, and a two-car door needs more of everything than a single. Damage comes second: a snapped cable can also bend a drum or bracket, and a door that left its track may have bent sections.
Access matters too. Wall-mount openers and tight garages take longer, and parts such as sensors, rollers and drums are quoted by type.
What a good quote lists
- Each part by name and size, such as springs, cables and rollers.
- Labor for each task, and any diagnosis or trip charge.
- What the repair covers and what it leaves out.
- The total, in writing, and the date the price holds to.
Checking the company in Washington
Washington Labor & Industries advises verifying each contractor's registration with its online tool, getting at least three written bids, and comparing scope, warranties, references and completion dates, not price alone. A written contract should show the full price with sales tax, payment terms, the completion date and a detailed description of the work.
L&I also advises a reasonable down payment, then paying for completed phases, and not paying in full until the work is done and you are satisfied. WashingtonLawHelp adds that for residential jobs costing from 1,000 to 60,000 dollars, a contractor must give you a written Notice to Customer before starting work.
Repair or replace the door
If the door is sound and one part has worn, repair is usually the better value. A new door is worth pricing when several sections are damaged, the model is discontinued, or repairs keep coming back. See what a new garage door costs in Washington and spring replacement cost for the other numbers.
Safety comes before price
Torsion springs and lift cables hold the weight of the door under tension. Do not try to adjust, wind or remove them. If a spring or cable has broken, or the door is crooked or heavy, stop using it and call a technician.
A sensor or roller is a quick job to price over the phone. A broken spring or a cable under tension is a job for trained hands.
