How Much Does a New Garage Door Cost in Arizona?

By Emil Garage Doors · Published November 2, 2026 · 4 min read · Costs and prices

Short answer

A new 16x7 steel garage door costs about $1,400 to $2,400 non-insulated and $1,800 to $3,600 insulated, installed. Carriage and wood-look doors run $2,200 to $5,500, and modern or full-view glass doors cost more. Size, insulation, windows and color change the price, and we confirm it after we see the opening.

What a new door costs

These are our approved ranges, installed. A range is used because two doors of the same size can differ in insulation, glass and finish.

What moves the price

  • Size: a 9x7 single door costs less than a 16x7 double. A custom size or special order adds 20% to 40% and the lead time is 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Insulation: Clopay, a door manufacturer, says an insulated door costs more up front than a plain steel one and that savings may offset the difference over time.
  • Windows: more glass, or insulated glass, adds $400 to $1,200.
  • Color and finish: a custom color adds $300 to $1,200.
  • Hardware: carriage-style handles and hinges raise the price of a carriage house door.

Do you need insulation?

The manufacturer says plain steel doors get hot in summer in areas with extreme temperatures, and recommends R-12 or higher for the most benefit in an extreme climate or an attached garage. That is the maker's guidance, not an independent test.

If the garage is attached or used as a room, price an insulated door. If it is a detached storage space, a plain steel door may be enough. See insulating a hot Arizona garage door for how to read R-value and U-factor.

What a quote should list

The Federal Trade Commission says an estimate should cover the work, the materials, the completion date and the price, and that you should not automatically choose the lowest bidder. Ask for these in writing:

  1. The door model, size, panel style, insulation type and color.
  2. Windows or glass, and the hardware.
  3. Springs, cables, tracks and rollers, and whether they are new.
  4. The opener work, if any, and removal of the old door.
  5. The lead time, the install date and when payment is due.

Deposits and payment

A new door with a lead time usually needs a deposit. The Arizona Attorney General says not to pay more than one-third of the total cost as a down payment and never to pay for the whole project before work begins. The FTC adds that final payment should come only when the work is complete and you are satisfied, and that a contract should have no blank spaces.

Heavier doors need matching hardware

Clopay notes that insulated doors are heavier and may need a stronger opener. The springs must be matched to the door's weight, and a technician should do that work. DASMA calls springs the most dangerous part of the door and says only trained professionals should repair them. See spring repair if your old door needs help while you decide.
