Owner-occupied family houses from around 1980
According to the Census Bureau's 2024 five-year estimates, the median home in Danville was built in 1980. About 86 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, and about 77 percent of all homes are detached houses, with attached homes bringing the total to about 92 percent. Springs are rated for a set number of open-and-close cycles, and doors from around 1980 that serve a busy family household have often passed that rating.
Wikipedia says Danville was part of Rancho San Ramon, granted in 1834 to Jose Maria Amador, and was incorporated as a town on July 1, 1982. Hartz Avenue is the downtown focus, and the Danville Hotel was moved to face it in 1927. Blackhawk, east of Danville, is an unincorporated, gated planned community with its own association, according to Wikipedia, and it is not part of the Town. We could not verify any association's garage door rules.
Tell us your cross street and whether the door is a single, a pair or a wide double, and we book the soonest visit. We weigh and balance each door before choosing springs, and we add a battery backup when an older opener is replaced.

What Danville weather does to a garage door
Wikipedia's climate figures for Danville are modeled 1981-2010 normals with no station named. They put the January average high near 56 degrees, July near 85 and August near 84, with about 25 inches of rain a year. We did not verify record highs. The valley is warm and dry in summer, which ages rubber seals and lubricant.
A Town publication, posted in 2008 and updated in August 2025, says a Cal Fire map placed parts of Danville in the Very High fire hazard zone, more than 90 percent of it in or around Magee Ranch and most of the rest in Cameo Acres off Green Valley Road. That 2008 description may differ from the state's newer maps, so we do not quote a parcel count. The Morgan Fire in September 2013 burned about 3,700 acres near Clayton and dropped ash on Danville, according to NBC Bay Area. On October 18, 2024, PG&E shut off power in 12 counties including Contra Costa during a Diablo wind event, and Mount Diablo recorded a 49 mile an hour gust on October 11, 2021, according to Patch. We found no verified Danville-specific outage record.
Before fire season, wipe the tracks, oil the rollers and hinges and check that the bottom seal sits snug against the floor. Press the test button on the battery backup, and know where the manual release is.

Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review

Battery backup, permits and design rules in Danville
Opener law. A battery backup is required on residential openers sold or installed in California (Health and Safety Code section 19892), and a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener without one. If your opener is old, plan for a new one. See opener installation.
Associations. Check any HOA or historic overlay rules before you order a new door, and see new garage doors for style options.
Town permits. Danville is an incorporated town, so its rules come from the Town of Danville. The Building Division is at 500 La Gonda Way, with (925) 314-3330 and building@danville.ca.gov. Its hours are Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed 12 to 1, and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it is closed from 2 to 4 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. The Town's FAQ says a permit is required for most construction and repair projects, but it does not mention garage doors, doors or openers, so we could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule. Ask the Building Division before the work, at danville.ca.gov.
Fire zone. According to a mirror of the Town's code, section 10-8 adopts the state's Very High fire hazard zones and requires new buildings in them to follow Chapter 7A of the California Building Code for permit applications on or after July 1, 2008. The text we saw does not mention garage doors. Magee Ranch and Cameo Acres are the areas the Town's publication names, and we could not verify whether either is gated.

Danville garage door repair: questions we hear
Is there garage door repair near me in Danville?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs garage doors in Danville (ZIP 94526 and 94506) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood and what the door does, and we book the soonest visit. See garage door repair near me.
What is the average price to repair a garage door in Danville?
Typical prices: a 12-point safety inspection is $89, a torsion spring pair for a standard two-car door is $250 to $450 (heavy-duty springs $350 to $900), a cable pair is $175 to $350, and a belt-drive opener installed with battery backup is $550 to $900. The final price is confirmed after we see the door.
What is the most common garage door repair in Danville?
Broken torsion springs are among the most common garage door repairs, because springs wear out after a set number of open-and-close cycles. Cables, rollers, safety sensors and off-track doors follow. See garage door spring repair.
How much is a service call for a garage door?
Our 12-point safety inspection is $89. It covers the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and opener, and we explain what we find before any repair starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a garage door?
A repair is usually cheaper when the door itself is sound and only a spring, cable, roller or sensor failed. Replacement makes sense when panels are bent or rotted, the door is very old or the opening needs a different size. We tell you which one fits before we start.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Danville?
Danville homes use ZIP codes 94526 and 94506, according to zip-codes.com. ZIP code 94506 also serves the unincorporated, gated community of Blackhawk, so an address with that ZIP may not be inside the Town of Danville. Call us with your street and we confirm we reach it. We also serve nearby Alamo, San Ramon and Walnut Creek.
Does a garage door replacement in Danville need a permit?
We could not confirm a garage-door-specific rule. The Town's FAQ says most construction and repair projects need a permit, but it does not mention garage doors. Call the Danville Building Division at (925) 314-3330 to ask whether your door or opener work needs one.
Do Danville's fire zone rules affect a garage door?
We could not verify this. The Town adopts the state's Very High fire hazard zones, and its publication names Magee Ranch and Cameo Acres. The code text we saw is about new buildings and does not mention garage doors. If your home is in or near a zone, ask the Building Division before you order a new door.
Can a handyman fix a garage door?
A handyman can often handle a simple job such as a sensor or a roller. Springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained technician, so call us for those.
Does California require a battery backup on a garage door opener?
Yes. California Health and Safety Code section 19892 says residential openers sold or installed in the state need a battery backup, and a replacement garage door cannot be connected to an older residential opener that lacks one.
Do you also repair gates in Danville?
Yes. See gate repair and electric gate repair.
